Let me start by saying I only drive approx. 12,000/year, never had an accident, don't off-road or drive like a maniac. The car has had all of it's recommended maintenance, usually at Currie Motors in Frankfort IL (I will NEVER go there again).
We've owned Fords for more years than I care to mention and never had this kind of problem with any other vehicle this soon in it's lifetime. I understand all the computer systems may present more problems, but really, the SAFETY system?
I initially didn't think much about the dashboard light because why should there be a problem with the air bags on a car with only approx. 45-46,000 miles. The dashboard light is coming on more frequently. I had the problem diagnosed 2 days ago and learned that while the light is on, the air bags will not deploy. I'm not currently able to get the car in for the $1,000 repair but will have to as soon. What good is an alleged SAFETY system that fails with less than 50,000 miles on the car? I was told by Robert, Service Dept., that is has happened to other Escapes but not enough to warrant a recall. The air bag module shorts out at less than 50,000 miles, rendering the air bags useless, and Ford doesn't think this is a justifiable recall? When will it become a problem? When it reaches the same level as GM's ignition switches?
I am livid that I'm faced with this repair bill on a vehicle that has about half the mileage our other cars had at this time. Ford touts the quality of their products? THIS IS THE LAST FORD PRODUCT I WILL EVER OWN.
