My daughter's 2010 Ford Escape, 4 cyl 2.5L XLS, FWD, will not start. I've had the battery tested, 100%. Starter relay replaced, fuse seems perfectly intact. I've replaced the ignition switch with zero change in behavior. Daughter stopped the car in a parking lot, got back in and it just refused to turn over. The key turns fine to the ON and START positions, but nothing happens. The lights on the dash all come on perfectly in ON, and the digital odometer turns off when turning the key to START, but nothing happens. No clicks, no sounds, nothing. I've tried wiring around the ignition switch but installing a button, as others have done, and all this did was give me the same behavior. Key in ON, push the button (which should start the car), and the digital odometer goes out and comes back on, car doesn't make any noise.
One weird thing to note. When I was replacing the starter relay, the one O'Reilly's sold me had pins that were too wide. I didn't realize this, and went to push the relay in. Two of the pins didn't fit and got push up into the relay. The other two went in fine, and the starter began turning over continuously. The keys were NOT in the ignition at this time, making me think I'd basically hotwired the car through the relay. So at the very least it tells me the starter still works, but is somehow just not getting juice when the key is turned. I'm at my wits end. Someone please save me from this hell.
