Sometimes the Check Engine comes on too, but goes off shortly after wrench light which is strange because seems like check engine light should not go off so quickly.
Ford has a ridiculous number of complaints about this and I seem them all over the Internet. They should have done a recall, bunch of BS!
My car suddenly lost power, my vehicle still functioned (AC, power steering) but went to a very low speed. No dashboard indicator light came on though. I had it towed as I felt it was unsafe to drive. It simply just stops moving without warning.
The dealer put my car on the machine and said there were 'no codes' coming back, they also test drove it and ran it in shop and could not replicate. We asked if there were bulletins out with similar issues or was the PCM looked at, in which I was told no and no. I was sent on my way with with a $200 bill and no issue resolved.
One month later my car did the same thing, this time however a wrench code appeared. After turning the vehicle off and back on again the vehicle would run for a short time; however, the wrench disappeared and the engine light came on and stayed on. A two second Google search tells me that this is a VERY common issue with the throttle body and that Ford agreed to do a Customer Satisfaction program to avoid doing a recall. This bulletin described the exact symptoms as mine and was common for my make, model, and year.
The Ford trained "experts" are not able to diagnose an issue unless the machine tells them the code. They are not able to look at the model and year and know there are programs in place for this precise issue. The dealer also failed to advise me that unless a warning on my dash came up, the computer wouldn't be able to give the error code - so they essentially charged me $200 knowing it would yield no results. I ultimately took this to a different dealer and the machine provided the error code and they repaired at no charge, under what they call an extended warranty.
2010 Ford Escape XLT. The dreaded yellow wrench light came on. Dealer says I need to replace the rear differential. More than $2,000 and a week without a car.
