Vehicle: 2010, Ford Escape, with automatic transmission. Safety complaint: There is no illumination on the gear selector for models that have an automatic transmission with floor shifter and console. When driving the vehicle at night there is not an illuminated indication to signify what gear the vehicle has been placed into. There is a very good possibility that in a dark vehicle you could easily mistake placing the vehicle in either reverse or drive and cause an accident because you are expecting to go in a different direction. This seems like a basic feature that Ford Motor Company should recall vehicles to install an illuminated indicator that operates with all other instrumentation lights.
