This is bull. The Ford company stated the repair will be around $1200 to fix because it is out of warranty, yet they are the ones who never recalled the issue when they knew the vehicles where bad off. My mom left me the vehicle after she passed away and now Ford is hitting me with a ridiculous price to fix the vehicle for something they knew to fail. This is why I choose CHEVROLET over FORD any day.
The steering wheel vibrates to both sides by itself. The car may be still or may be in movement and the problem is the same. The vibration happens all the time and is getting worse. And there is a sound when this vibration happens.
i would never buy another ford i've had nothing but trouble with the front end. my wife doesn't trust it she said it isn't fit to drive when you turn the steering wheel theres a clicking noise coming from the steering. i called the dealer they told me that it could be anything that could cause this problem and it wasn't covered under warranty
Update from Apr 5, 2016: i since had to replace the steering coupler in the steering column and now the steering gets very stiff when turning the wheel
ford is aware of this problem but can not effect a repair now , still working on it. I did notice a vibration when i test drove the vehicle and was told it was an unbalance wheel or something simple and would be taken care of. for 6 months I didn't notice this recurring until 9 months later. I wonder if this problem was known to affect some of this model and I was one of the unlucky ones to purchase a "lemon"!!
I believe that vehicles with this problem should not have been sold until a fix was available and I am angry and dissapointed with ford and its dealership.
Update from Jan 27, 2010: I now think that this is not a steering system problem as I was told, but is associated with the suspension or drive train.
will return to dealership and hopefully they will diagnose the problem correctly and not say "can not duplicate
customer's concern"
Update from Mar 11, 2010: went bck to dealer and had service manager take a test drive ' He immediately noted the vibration and with further checking discovered a problem with the drive train.
a new driveshaft was ordered.. will update if this corrects the problem.
