While driving my Ford Escape I noticed smoke coming from under the front hood and I immediately pulled over and stopped the engine. I popped open the hood and saw oil all over the passenger side of the engine compartment. I had it towed to my Ford dealer and they determined that part of the front engine cover had broken off (see picture). The dealer put on a new front engine cover and serpentine belt. This was obviously a manufacturing defect but my dealer said that Ford would not cover it since I had just passed over my drive train warranty. End result was that I had to pay for it out of my own pocket. BTW, the dealer did do a great job fixing it.
