The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. While driving 30 mph, the ABS, brake, and traction control warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the ABS control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 21,300. On January 18, 2016 I paid $2,829.78 for brake repairs on our 2009 Ford Escape (V6 / 2-wheel drive, with 136,221 miles on the odometer). The brake repairs were required because of a failure in both the ABS braking module and the brake master cylinder (please see attached invoice from cornerstone Ford), which caused the brake pedal to sink to the floor when brakes were applied. I could not believe that Ford had not issued a recall on the vehicle, especially when 2 major brake system parts failed at the same time (I was told by cornerstone Ford that they had seen this problem before in the Escapes, and replacing only the master cylinder would not fix the problem, because there was fluid blow-by past the seals in both parts). Without the brake system fix the vehicle was extremely unsafe to drive, especially in big lake, Minnesota winter weather conditions (where I was driving the vehicle at the time of the brake failure). If I had not had the brakes fixed when I did, both my life and the lives of others could have been affected in a chain reaction collision I had on the interstate the next morning, after I had picked the vehicle up from repairs. About 6:20 am on January 19, 2016 I was traveling southbound on I-94 when traffic came to an abrupt stop. I had to immediately hit my brakes as others in front of me also did. The person behind me stopped in time, but the person behind him did not and in turn hit him and pushed him into the back of my vehicle. Both vehicles behind me had to be towed from the scene, but fortunately I did not (please see attached traffic report). If the brakes on our Escape had failed at the time of this accident (which is very possible, had the repairs not been made) I could have easily plowed into the vehicle(s) ahead of me and put more lives at risk. This is a very important safety flaw in the 2009 Escape & should be addressed to save lives.
When driving the traction control light, brake light, and ABS light came on. These light will not go out. Taking it to a mechanic, they tell me it is the ABS module. The test cost $100. To replace the module will cost $1395. Should this not be a warranted item for safety? the shop told me that the ABS and traction control will not work until the module is replaced.
Entering a parking space in a grocery store lot. When I applied the brakes it seemed I got a simutaneus engine acceleration and the car surged forward hitting the facing car.

Excessive wear on front brakes, replaced at 18,000 miles and again at 25,000 miles plus new calipers. Vehicle's current mileage is 27,000...steers better now... difficultly inserting key in ignition unless steering is in the lock position.. current problem.
While coming to a stop at a major intersection with a car in front of me, my 2009 Ford Escape suddenly accelerated and would not stop, despite my frantic efforts to brake the car; I swerved to my right, went through 6 inches of snow on grass curb and then went up a 5 ft. Ice bank, where my wheels jammed in the ice and I stopped, sitting at nearly a 45 degree angle, 5 ft. Above the road. My front bumper was mangled in the ice bank and my passenger-side mirror was broken off by a stop sign. If not for the snow bank, I would have continued into the very busy intersection, where I and other drivers would have undoubtedly been injured or killed. I want to emphasize that despite hitting the brake, the car with unintended acceleration problem, did not stop, it kept going until hitting the snow-ice bank.
I was traveling on the turnpike when all at once my car jerked then lost power, I was unable to steer the car so I coasted on the median till the car allowed me to turn onto an exit ramp. My husband came and checked the truck, it started and seemed to be okay. The entire month of November the truck starts however the steering wheel is locked. I have to cut the car off and on at least 6 times while trying to turn the wheel before it unlocks and allows me to move the steering wheel. My husband called the Ford dealer and was advised that the entire steering column would need to be replaced, and I would have to bear the cost. I don't feel this is fair because I researched this matter and found there are a lot of complaints about this matter. I am not able to drive the truck because I'm afraid there could be a catastrophe. I think something should be done to fix this matter. Thanks
The contact owns a 2009 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard upon being depressed without warning. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where the engine was turned off. The failure persisted and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the brake hydraulic control unit would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Brake pedal went to the floor leaving my office. Local master mechanic inspected it and said it's the brake hydraulic control unit (hcu). I drove to frontier Ford dealer and the technician said it's the master cylinder which was a wrong diagnosis and after replacing the master cylinder the brake was soft and went half way to the floor.
Driving and vehicle kept acting like it was stalling while trying to drive. Knew that the gas was not low, so wasn't sure what the issue was. Made it to destination and called mechanic. Brought it in to the shop, still with intermittent stalling while driving. Ran a test and said that the throttle actuator control system was stuck open - this has seemed to be a problem with Ford Escape vehicles. Got it fixed with no incidents, but could have been worse.
Vehicle has no brakes after sitting overnight, requires pumping brake pedal to correct. Vehicle has been in dealer shop numerous times. Dealer recently replaced master cylinder and reprogrammed ABS module. Vehicle still has the problem and its 2013. Found numerous complaints on the web after doing search for "Ford Escape brake problems". Ford response is that haven't seen any problems.
