From my research on line Ford has a huge problem with there transmissions in the 2008 Ford escape.

My 2008 Ford Escape only has 70,000 miles on it. About two moths ago its not shifting out of 2 and 4th gear.

I have had several places look at it and they all say the transmission has to be replace. Est. 2,200.00. No warranty mine was 100,000 or three years which ever comes first. This really sucks big time. My car has been well taken care of by me. Oil changed every 3,000 mile. I work about 1 mile from my home. So its maybe driven 3 miles a day. I will not by another ford vehicle because of this. Ford need to pay to have this problem fixed.!!!

I have a 2008 Ford Escape, 3.0L V6 Engine. We purchased the extended warranty and service contract with Ford and had the car serviced at Ford until 6 months ago when the service contract ran out. The car is just over 4 years old at 105,000 miles and the 2nd gear in the transmission went out. I reached out to Ford to request a Good Will repair given all of my vehicles are and have been Ford and given the fact that we have diligently had the car maintenance and repair done by Ford and they refused. Looking at the message boards, this seems to be a significant recurring problem with the Escape and I believe Ford needs to be held accountable. This presents not only a hazard to the driver but also to the drivers around me as when the problem occurs, the car looses speed and the RPMs rev out.

A transmission should get significantly more than 105,000 miles on it prior to failing. I have other cars with 200,000+ miles with no significant issues.

Purchased the vehicle new in May 2007 had zero problem til we got off the interstate on 3/30/2012 the vehicle wouldn't idle in gear it would stall. It would run great in park or neutral and would drive in every gear but at idle would screech shudder and stall. Having to have the entire thing rebuilt due to something breaking inside sending the piece through the pump and lodging in the converter thus locking it down as if its always at interstate speed thus the idle problem. The transmission had been serviced properly and driven carefully. I am very surprised that these vehicles aren't making it to 100,000 miles before catastrophic failure of major drive train components. I wont be buying another Ford and that's sad because I've driven them all my life.

I bought my 2008 Ford Escape XLT in 2007. By July of 08' and at 29,094 milesI had to take it in because my reverse went out. They said"Found pump support worn real bad on 1 side and wore through the seal rings. found other parts worn that were in line with the pump support. could not find cause of wear. Installed reman transmission. evacuated a/c and installed new a/c condenser/trans fluid cooler. Flushed cooler in hoses." This thankfully was all covered under warranty. However, on Nov. 24th 10' at 72,771 miles 43,677 miles later I again had to take my car back to the dealer as once again my reverse was starting to go. The tech report I received this time said the exact same thing above was happening yet again! Only this time Ford tells me it's going to cost ME 4100 dollars after complaining for a week to anyone at customer service that would listen they offered to let me pay half plus the price of my rental car! Needless to say it still is not fixed and think it is crap that they expect me to go through this apparently every 2 years. Maybe we should think about filing a class action suit? Wonder if that would make them listen any better after we all cost them as much money as they will eventually cost us to repair their crappy car!

Bought a brand new 2008 ford escape,had so many problems its not funny.

1. Noise at the rear when breaking from 7 miles up until this day, never been fixed.

2. Leaking transmission, fixed by dealer. Other minor trim fixes - fixed by dealer.

Now the transmission is slipping at only 35,000 miles. It revs to over 4000 rpm goes only 20 mph for about 5 seconds then lurches into 3rd gear. Unbelievable for a new car! Another ford? im not so sure?

Escape Limited 3.0L V6

no warning transmission failed, picked it up ten days later with a new transmission installed, that one failed 1200 miles later, now on 3rd "black box" transmission, no report as to why from dealer or FMC. 1st one was full of metal chips and burnt, second one was lurching into gear (usually 1st gear) brought to dealer, they found it had an internal crack, left it with them while old reliable 02 Saturn was used until April 2nd 2010, no confidence in the Escape anymore, listen for problems all the time now.
