We bought this from the dealership and, within 3 months, the steering wheel started spinning on it's own. I bought this for my grandson and it's too dangerous for him to drive. He has already ran off the road once and the wheel is bent out. We replaced the rack and pinion and it didn't help. The wheel still spins on it's own. Anyone have any idea how to fix this? The repair shop has had it for 2 weeks and can't figure out how to fix it.
I had the "recall" fixed at my local dealership,but it still feels as though the front end is not aligned.
I have put on new tires with balancing and alignment. The steering wheel does not feel as though it is accurately matching the front wheels. This is unsettling. I feel like I spent a large amount of money to own a safe, reliable vehicle, to own a piece of unreliable junk that would barely be suitable for a kid going to HS locally.
As I started my car and was on my way, I noticed that the steering made a loud noise and resisted me turning the wheel. I realized the power steering was not working so I turned the car off, waited 10 minutes, started it again and drove off.
The problem was there, but slowly faded and was gone within 5 minutes. I have not experienced this issue again since then.
I have 2008 Ford Escape, I took it the dealership for the Recall repairs to the power steering sensor. After a few days I started noticing that the steering was loose and would make an awesome scraping/grinding noise when going slow and turning the steering wheel all the way around. I took it back to the dealership to have them look at it and it turns out I need the Lower Steering Shaft U-Joint replaced, approximately $285.00 plus tax and labor. I have noticed online that a lot of other owners are having problems with their steering after having the recall labor done. I am having my U-Joint replaced as soon as I can come up the cost, however I think that due to numerous complaints regarding this issue, that Ford should look into another recall on the steering shaft. Steering is a very important safety feature on a vehicle and not something to be taken lightly... thanks for listening.
Update from Apr 8, 2015: I took my Escape to my local mechanic, who I trust, and they replaced the Lower Steering Shaft U-Joint. I am still noticing a clunking noise when i turn my steering wheel all the way and turn it back. Also still experiencing a lot of play in the steering wheel when driving. There was nothing wrong with my steering before I took it into Ford for the recall, I was sent a letter saying if I didn't take it in within a certain time they wouldn't be responsible for any repairs. I am wishing that I hadn't purchased this vehicle, nothing but problems since I was "reprogrammed" at the dealership for the recall. Boo to you FORD!!!

I was backing out of a parking spot and heard a loud crack. The car was swaying when I drove home. My husband replaced the steering shaft because it was broken in half. Ford would not cover it because it was just out of warranty. Less then two years later we are having the same problem.
We purchased the part from our local Ford dealer and my husband is a certified mechanic. The part was $140.
Our car sounds like the front end is going to fall apart. This vehicle only has 56,000miles on itt. We are very frustrated.
This should be a warranty issue,or a recall,it is life threatening, does it take people to get killed before ford does a recall ! If your steering is making noise turning the wheel to the left,or there is too much play,take it in asap!
