My 2008 Ford Escape has a transmission fluid leak coming from the condenser. At the time of discovery, on March 27, 2013, I was 8 months out of my warranty but about 10,000 miles under (26,300). Apparently, the reason this leak is happening because of a manufacturer's design flaw. Normally the transmission cooler and AC cooler are two separate units and in this model they are one unit. Ford has since redesigned this part. To me that seems like they have admitted the flaw and fixed it on newer models. It seems there was some sort of fix it program for this that expired August 2010. So if you found your leak after then, sorry about your luck.
Now wouldn't it be nice if this $300-$800 repair had a recall on it? YES.
THE ONLY WAY Ford issues recalls is after having around 150,000 complaints on the issue. Its great y'all are talking and complaining and letting other owners know of this issue online. BUT you need to call Ford Customer Service (1-800-392-3673) and file a complaint. Also you need to call and file a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (888) 327-4236). Ford and the NHTSA compile their complaints and decide if a recall is needed. Your complaints on forums and whatever literally mean nothing.
CALL AND FILE SO ALL ESCAPE OWNERS CAN BE REIMBURSED.
It takes 5-10 minutes each for both complaints to be filed. You will need you VIN number and they will create an account for you.
ALSO, keep your receipt, whether you had the problem fixed privately or at a Ford certified mechanic, there is a possibility that you can still be able to be reimbursed.
