CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2007 Ford Escape looks pretty good compared to other Ford Escape model years, but still has a trend of transmission problems, so it's not a model year we can recommend.

Also the base model Escape did not come with side airbags so it received a "Poor" rating from the IIHS for side impact protection. Other similar 2007 models like the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V & Hyundai Santa Fe scored far better.

We took our 2007 Ford Escape (aprox 60,000 miles) on a road trip from omaha ne to St. Louis mo on 3/10/13 and arrived with no issues. On our return trip we drove about 100 miles until the car stopped on the interstate. The vehicle completely shut down and all of the warning lights came on at the same time. We were able to coast to the shoulder safely but were unable to restart the vehicle. We had aaa tow the vehicle about 30 miles to the closest town and aaa approved mechanic. When the mechanic looked at the vehicle they determined that the vehicle had burned through all of the oil and was completely empty causing the engine to seize up. There were no warning lights indicating low oil up until this point. I had recently had my oil changed about 8 week and less than 1000 miles prior to this incident and there were no leaks so it seems very improbably that the vehicle would have used 4 qts of oil in that time. I contacted Ford and the vehicle is just out of the warranty period and they are unwilling to assist. In my research it appears that this may be a common occurrence on this vehicle at about 60-70K miles and may warrant additional research. I am currently attempting to get my vehicle transported the 350 miles home to get a second opinion and repaired. The contact owns a 2007 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the engine began to knock and the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the engine had seized due to no oil being in the vehicle. The mechanic stated that there was no sign of an oil leak. The contact was also informed that the engine would have to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 92,000.

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Escape. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph when the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to be restarted however, the failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer twice. The fuel pump, fuel pump module and battery were replaced. The failure recurred after the repair was performed. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the contact was awaiting diagnosis of the vehicle. There was a concurrent investigation associated with the failure under NHTSA action number: DP12006 (engine). The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000. The VIN was not available.

Had been driving for 4 hours at 70 mph, got off interstate to use restroom and while exiting; when applying the brakes, the engine shut off. Vehicle placed in park, restarted, placed in drive and again immediately the engine shut off. Had to have it towed and I was 2 hours from home. Ford dealer said it was computer and updated some things and it worked fine for 2 months. Again on 10/13/12 was getting off exit near home and when applying brakes, the engine shut off. Same thing. Had to have it towed to Ford dealer where I was told it was the "torque converter" locking up. After vehicle sat for a week; it is now drivable again but still needs to have this replaced and transmission too due to this problem. I don't have that money just lying around. After doing research, I discovered this is a common problem with this vehicle from prior years past but obviously Ford has never fixed the problem. I have done regular maintenance on vehicle while I have owned it for the last 4 years, I have taken very good care of it. This is ridiculous; if Ford knows this is an issue and actually sends out "service bulletins" on this very issue and tells dealers exactly how to fix it then they should pay for it. This is ridiculous. This vehicle is only 5 years old. Please help.

Pulled away after a stop sign and reach a speed of about 35 - 40 miles an hour when the engine just shut down. There was no warning and I was fortunate that I was able to pull off the road safely. After the engine cooled down I was able to limp home. The next day I took it into the local Ford dealer and was told the mecs cooling pump and fans had failed. I cannot image what would have happened if I had been on a freeway when this happened. This is a very dangerous defect with the Ford hybrid model. To make matters worse, Ford says I am 400 miles past my warranty coverage and it would cost me over $1,200 to fix.
