CarComplaints.com Notes: With solid trends of engine failure — $4,500 to fix at 85,000 miles avg — AND transmission failure — $3,000 to fix at 75,000 miles avg — we can't recommend the 2006 Ford Escape to anyone except your worst enemy.
Kept noticing spots on the floor. The seal between the cv axle and trans was leaking and losing alotta fluid. (topped off fluid every week until I could afford to fix it) cost was $300.
I NOTICED TRANSMISSION FLUID PUDDLE UNDER THE FRONT END OF THE CAR. HAD ALL FLUID LEVELS CHECKS AT SERVICE STATION & IT WAS DETERMINED THAT I WAS LOSING TRANS. FLUID. MECHANIC SAID ESCAPES ARE NOTORIUS FOR TRANS. PROBLEMS. TOOK IT TO REPAIR SHOP, THEY MADE SOME MINOR REPAIRS TO THE SEAL IN THE TRANSFER CASE, APPROX. $300. HAD IT BACK 2 MORE TIMES BECAUSE FLUID IS STILL LEAKING. NEXT STEP THEY SAID IS NEW TRANSMISSION. I DON'T THINK SO. I'VE GOT LESS THAN 56,000 MILES ON IT & IT'S ONLY 6 YEARS OLD. I'M SO DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS VEHICLE. I'M SHOPPING FOR A SIMILAR TYPE VEHICLE, BUT TOYOTA, SUBARU, OR HONDA. I'VE OWNED AMERICAN MADE VEHICLES ALL MY LIFE, BUT NO MORE.
My 2006 Escape, 52,000 Km. started leaking in February 2008, from the rear transmission (transaxle).
I've taken the vehicle 4 times already to the dealership to fix the problem. Unfortunately, the dealership hasn't been able to solve it. I am still financing this car and the warranty is about to expire in a month. The dealership told me that as soon as the warranty is over I will have to pay future services to fix this problem.
It's very frustrating dealing with this "LEMON"................
