Bought SUV with 58,000 miles no rust, clean undercarriage. Took to first Ford dealer for oil change and check small leak by rear end . Dealer said no problem with small drip. SUV vibrated after rotating tires, so took to Bell Tire for high speed balance. They said tires were in balance, still vibrating bad between 31 mph and 45 mph. They rechecked and test drove then showed me all the rust on drive shaft and with all rust flaking off it was out of balance and had worn out seal. (Ford did not catch).
Took to another Ford dealer and told problem and wanted new drive shaft and new rear seal. They put new shaft on and changed seal. Now running smooth again. SUV is in great shape no rust clean but cannot figure how a drive shaft can rust out before SUV. In all the cars and trucks I have had, I have never seen this. Ford says they have no answer but can not help me out, I told them I would pay labor if they bought parts, the answer was NO.
