CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Escape has problems where the engine shuts down while driving. Ford finally issued a September 2014 recall. Time will tell if the recall fix really solves the problem.
However the 2005 Escape also has a defect where the PCM (Power Control Module) fries at around 100k miles. Ford extended the PCM warranty to 80,000 miles, but only after most owners were past the mileage limit. Now owners are on the hook for the average repair cost of over $2,000 (!!)
The vehicle has a continuous beeping sound. What I notice is that the light on the dash, a yellow light with a man sitting and a strap around his waist, no longer shows on the dash.
Problem began two summers ago.. Alarm went off on it's own randomly. Seemed to stop happening as long as I locked the car with the key fob instead of the door locks. This summer it started doing the same thing, It happened so often it became necessary to leave my car unlocked totally. There is a warning beep coming from the dash intermittently (every minute or so & continuous until the car door is opened & closed (while driving). Last month the dome lights would come on by themselves when doors were closed & could not be shut off. My battery died overnight. (only 1 yr old & checked out fine), Stopped doing it on it's own??? Scared of an electrical fire!
Plan to have a diagnostic check on it. On fixed income & need to wait until I have the money to take it in.
