I have had problems with this vehicle since driving it off the lot.If I applied the brakes before reaching a steady 25 to 35 mph the brakes would grind and squeal. After reaching the right speed the abs light would come on and work fine until I turned the car off. Had it in the shop numerous times to no avail.2 yrs. ago I spent $ 2,000 and it still wasn't fixed.
2 weeks ago it started fine but when I went to put it in reverse the gear shift was completely loose and would only go into park. Had it towed to dealership, they called the same day to say the shifting cable broke, easy fix $300 have it back the next day. The next day I get a call telling me the back brakes had completely locked up and to get it to drive off the lot minimum $ 2,000.
I read a few comments where others had the same problem. For a 2002 the mileage wasn't bad 139,000. Can't afford to fix it and the dealership says I still owe them $400 ( yes, quote was $300 ) for replacing cable plus I have to tow it somewhere. I wouldn't own another escape of you paid me. Worst vehicle I have ever had.
