Got DTC codes P0741 and P1744 from our 2018 Ford Edge on 12/27/23. Mileage was just under 66K (powertrain warranty expired not long ago). Took the vehicle to the local Ford dealer in Ridgecrest, CA. Estimate to repair was approximately $7000. This would entail a complete transmission rebuild. Shocked as I was at this high cost, I took the vehicle (it still drove fine, RPMs seemed a little higher than normal at highway speed no doubt due to Torque Converter Clutch failing to lock up) to an AAMCO shop in the nearest town, Lancaster (85 miles distant). They charged $1000 to diagnose the problem, and their estimate was about $7500 to rebuild the transmission in one week, or replace with remanufactured transmission in 2-4 weeks. Not wanting to get a third estimate somewhere else, and with $1000 already spent that could be applied to the final bill, I authorized AAMCO to rebuild the transmission. Took two weeks to get the car back. Total cost, with rental car (two weeks), was about $8000.
I loved our Ford Edge very much.....until this problem happened. Great family car....until it broke down.
