excessive engine noise

Our 2017 Ford Edge recently started a rattle noise when we start the engine. The noise goes away when we start driving and comes back again when we stop in a signal or take turn. The mechanic told us they think it's a broken flexplate and they gave me an estimate of $1500 to fix that issue…after reading a few other forum articles regarding this issue what I found out it is a very common issue for Ford, which is almost always a manufacturing fault.”

This just started this week. All of the research I’ve done states that it’s a cracked flex plate, and to be super costly to fix.

Crack in flexplate which led to damage of engine and crankshaft. Fix is to replace entire engine, crankshaft, flexplate and related parts. Cost to repair is over $6,000! Mechanic reported that Ford knows this is a manufacturing error. A Google search shows this is a known issue that has been experienced by many owners of the Ford Edge ecoboost model. Contacted Ford but was told the VIN is not part of any recall and the car is out of mileage warranty.

You don't notice the noise with the windows up or with the windows down in an open area. Once you are in a more confined space (like the garage), the clattering sound is very annoying. Sounds like I'm driving and diesel from the 80's.
