At about 48,000 miles the 2.0L ecoboost engine had a check engine light. Brought it to Ford dealer and they said it was a coolant leak and it needed new engine. Vehicle still under warranty so engine will be replaced without cost. But I know others have had this problem. They need to issue a recall or warranty.
My 2017 Ford Edge 2.0L ecoboost, check engine light came on with code of P0302, after changing the spark plugs and coil packs, finally took it to our local dealership, banner Ford in mandeville, la and after a diagnostic was found to have "coolant intrusion on cylinder #2, and was told that Ford would not sell the parts to repair the engine, but that the entire engine had to be replaced because Ford had changed the design on the engine and gaskets. This should be a recall, not a tsb, as I have found multiple complaints and they all have contacted Ford with the same results, so Ford is well aware of this issue, complaints go back as far as 2015 and all are around the 65K to 70K mile mark. Ford knows about this by redesigning the engines and the gaskets. I am looking at an $8500 engine replacement bill because I am out-of-warranty.
Ford Edge has 50,000 miles on it, was reading misfore code P0301 and coolant was leaking into cylinder 1, many others have had the same issue. This needs to be a recall.
My engine had to be replaced because coolant was leaking into cylinder 2. this is a known issue to Ford and a recall should have been issued. NHTSA id number: 10162071 manufacturer communication number: Tsb 19-2208 summary some 2015-2018 Edge and 2017-2019 Fusion/mkz/escape/mkc vehicles equipped with a 2.0L ecoboost engine may exhibit a low coolant level, white exhaust smoke and/or a runs rough condition with or without an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (mil). Diagnostic trouble codes (dtcs) may include P0300, P0301-P0304, P0316, P0217, P1285 and/or P1299 stored in powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to coolant intrusion into the cylinder. To correct the condition, follow the service procedure steps to replace the long block engine assembly.
Engine light came on. Diagnosis code P0304 came on. Drove for another week and took to Ford dealership. Told there was coolant leaking into cylinders and I had to have a new engine. Engine is Ford 2.0 L ecoboost. Have found numerous entries on forums of consumers that have the same defective engine. Mileage is 25 miles beyond the 60,000 powertrain warranty. Cost is well over $5000 on an engine that Ford knows to be defective and they are not taking responsibility for recalling this defective engine.

A year ago my check engine light came on and the car felt like it was misfiring when I pushed the gas so I took it in to the dealership and they said that there was coolant leaking into the engine. They fixed the head gasket and replaced the cylinders and it ran okay for a while. Fast forward to last week and I was driving down a major highway with my five year old and my dog in the car on our way to vacation and an error light came on saying it was a coolant emergency; at the same time the check engine came on immediately. Suddenly the car basically went dead while in motion going 75 miles per hour. I had to steer it off of the highway and turn it off; leaving us stranded on the side of the highway for 4 hours. I had to have it towed to the nearest dealership and they said that there is coolant leaking into the engine and that the entire engine needs to be replaced because apparently after I had my car worked on the first time there was a tsb 19-2346 saying if this problem occurs then the engine needs to be replaced. The car is 3 years old and has had major engine failure twice in one year- leaving my family and I in a very dangerous situation. This needs to be recalled. The mechanic at the dealership said this is a common problem on the ecoboost 2.0 engine. A common problem"!"! now I have to pay $7000 for a new engine, $600 for a tow across three states $100 in uber for picking us up and hotel fees leaving us stranded.
Battery goes dead for no apparent reason. Sometimes a message will appear that the car is in power saving mode (electrically) to save the battery, but not always. After charging the battery, the vehicle may run fine for 2-3 weeks then go dead. I have noticed the turn signals do not always have an audible sound when working, and I have noticed a clicking noise from the fuse / circuit box without any thing being done to the vehicle, and when it will not start. The current episode is the second in 3 weeks, the third in 6mos. The first episode, the battery was replaced. I do not believe this a battery issue. Other than this, the car performs fine.
Engine light came on and car started running rough, jerking when starting up, or while waiting at a light. Took it to the shop and found out that there was coolant leaking into the cylinders and there was a Ford tsb out for it. Was lucky enough that my engine light came on got my car checked before it caused any accident. Reading about others having the same issue, some of them were not so lucky. This should be a recall not just a tsb.
I purchased a 2017 Ford Edge, in 2017, which ran fine at first. A year in, the car would run rough, and twice bogged down and turned off. Started again, replaced battery with under 2yrs of use and kept working. Fast forward two years, a few weeks ago, while driving home from work, I began to see performance issues and suddenly white smoke coming out the exhaust. No leaking was evident, and I never got a warning on my dash about temp or coolant or anything of the like. Took it to Ford, where I bought it, and after explaining the NHTSA customer satisfaction program, two of the associates reacted completely oblivious to what even NHTSA stood for or the issue, which btw seems to be reported over 10 times on the NHTSA site. Nevertheless, they suggested a new battery, spark plugs/wires, and then offered to take a look at the vehicle for a few days charging $125 for the "diagnostic", to which I refused. They then gave it a once-over, and found coolant in the engine, [milky oil] which indicates water seeping into the engine and would most likely require a cylinder head at the very least. They offered to give me a rental, for which they stated "I wouldn't have to pay" outside of the $50 liability fee, which is refundable upon Ford's hq/credit team got back to them. If they saw that this was not a "recall" type item, I would have to pay for the rental as well as the cost of repairs, which ball-parked around $4500-$5000. Clearly, this is unacceptable, for a 3yr old car with under 66K miles to have this problem. Filing a complaint with NHTSA in the hopes of finding some semblance of justice.
I went to the dealership where I bought my 2017 silver Ford Edge, because on 5/8/2020 the engine icon came up on my dash. So I immediately stopped at the local jarett Ford dealership in lakeland, fl, thinking it just needed an oil change. After I got this done, the engine icon never went and I began to experience my vehicle shaking and it also began heating up. This happened in 3 different occasions, with a red warning message on my dash of the precaution I should take to avoid overheating. Each time I immediately stopped the vehicle, waited for it to cool down, and added coolant to the radiator coolant tank. I went to elder Ford of tampa, fl, where I bought my vehicle and the service manager, terry was completely oblivious as to who NHTSA is as well as no idea of the customer satisfaction program. As I went to drive away my vehicle, now it did not want to start. Frank tried to see if it was a battery issue and tried jump starting it but it had nothing to do with the battery. By god's miracle my vehicle suddenly turned on and by his mercies I was able to arrive at my house. Now, I cannot get to work and are stuck because they say that there is nothing they can do because my warranty is over. I need to know if you can help me resolve this matter that is not my fault. I am very concerned that they have no idea as to what NHTSA is nor your customer satisfaction program. I will appreciate someone helping me, or pointing me in the right direction.
Engine: 2.0 ecoboost mileage: 61800 check engine light came on, error P0302 showed up. Oem spark plugs are placed in, along with a set of new coil packs. Cel was still on, ran a compression test and saw coolant being squirted out of cyl 2, signifying either a cracked head, or blown head gasket. Contacted Ford, who referred me to the local dealer, went into dealer and was quoted $200 for just the "diagnostic." Made me aware that Ford may require a tear down before even extending assistance in the repair. Since vehicle was out of warranty period I was quoted $4400 for tear down. Vehicle was not repaired.
My check engine light came on and when we attempted to repair the injectors as it stated with the error code, it didn't work, then I started losing coolant and we took the car into Ford. Ford now tells me the motor is bad and I need to have it replaced and it will cost $7600!
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to mountain Ford Inc (100 slope St, bryson city, nc 28713, 828-488-6999) where it was determined that coolant was seeping into the cylinder. Due to the defect, the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact was given a quote of $7,000 for the cost of labor and repairs because the vehicle was not under warranty. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the check engine and coolant over temperature warning indicators illuminated when the vehicle was started. The vehicle was taken to len stoler Ford (410-356-7000, located at 11275 reisterstown rd, owings mills, md 21117) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The technician also stated that the failure was a known issue. The contact was informed that the vehicle would be kept at the shop for two to three weeks due to a back up of work. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The contact was not provided a loaner vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Check engine light came on. Multiple misfires while stationary and while driving. Codes read P0302-misfire on cylinder 2 and P0316- oasis found tsb. Replaced all spark plugs and cylinder 2. check engine light went off and turned back on the next day and read the same codes. Ford says this was from a design flaw but hasn't been recalled, but the new motors have been redesigned. I would have to purchase a new long block and service for $7000 when this should have been recalled due to how many it has affected.
I have returned the vehicle twice for the same problem. I will be stopped at a red light and the screen shows for me to "put the vehicle in park and restart the engine". the first and second return was at stivers Ford montgomery al. The first return time was about an hour and they stated that they reset the computer. The second return was approximately 2 weeks. They issued me a loaner at no charge, and said the problem was fixed. They suggested that I could manually turn off the feature that powers down the vehicle. I will be returning to the dealership for the 3rd time on 1/18/19 for same problem. I am concerned that either this is a recall issue or dealership is unaware of how to repair.
On a highway driving 65 mph and vehicle shut off. Dashboard was dark yet flashed 'trans not in park'... assuming I hit the start button by accident while adjusting my vent. I had to cruise to a complete stop (on a busy highway with no shoulder to pull over during rush hour) since brakes didn't even work and restarted vehicle once it came to a complete stop and I could hit the break. I tested it later on that day and while driving in a safe parking lot, I hit the start button as I was driving 20 mph and it indeed shut off. There is an obvious glitch where the start button does not disengage when the vehicle is in drive as it should. My Edge had 5000 miles on it and I reported it to my Ford sales person- he has yet to get back to me. Huge safety issue Ford that must be addressed.
The vehicle's engine has stalled over a couple of dozen times since purchasing brand new a year ago. It usually stalls a couple of seconds after starting. Two times it has stalled while driving down the road. This can potentially be very dangerous. The vehicle has been taken to two different dealerships for a combined four times for this issue. They claim to not be able to duplicate the issue so nothing can be fixed. The vehicle has stalled 8 or 9 times in the past week alone.
I purchased this car new with 10 miles driven only 14 months ago. At 3100 miles it lost all electric/electronic/engine power as I was traveling approximately 40 miles on a city street with traffic! the engine light, service wrench light and dinging sounds flashed; the vehicle decreased in speed, and shut down, making it difficult to steer. Fortunately, I was able to coast off the street into an open driveway prior to its complete stop of the vehicle from loss of all power! then there were absolutely no power; ignition would not start; no lights, no power of any kind. After calling Ford service hotline, and about 2.5 hours waiting for a tow truck in the hot heat, I tried the ignition - the power was back. Nevertheless, the vehicle was towed to Ford dealership where purchased. The next day their diagnostics and two test drives 'found no problems with the vehicle'. I informed the service manager at wyatt johnson Ford, just because they were unable to find a problem, doesn't negate the fact that something is definitely wrong with the vehicle to stop abruptly as it did; like a computer shutting down completely. I do not feel comfortable driving this vehicle knowing this could happen again with dire consequences and want to report this hazardous problem to inform the public accordingly! there are no pictures to accompany this complaint. I await some information on this vehicle. There have been several people who shared similar problems with Ford, Nissan and other vehicles. I need to know what will be done to correct this problem further. Thank you.
