Coolant leak in engine cylinders; needs new engine
On March 12, I took my 2017 Ford Edge to Munson Tire in Lansing, NY as there was no internal heat working in the car. I, along with my mechanic, Mitch Munson, believed it had something to do with the thermostat. The assessment was that there was a coolant leak in the engine cylinders and the head gasket was damaged and that I couldn't just replace the head gasket, as it's part of the engine and the entire engine would have to be replaced.
As a result of this news, I called another reputable/recommended mechanic, Allen Lanning with Kuntry Kustom in Ithaca, NY to get a second opinion. The owner inspected the vehicle and endorsed the same opinion as my regular mechanic in that the coolant was leaking (he also did a combustion test) into the engine cylinders and that an engine replacement was mandatory if I was going to keep the car. He researched new, remanufactured, and used engines in the Northeast and could find none. Even so, if an engine could be located, it would cost me approximately $8,000 to service the car with the recommended repairs.
I do not have $8,000 to spend on a car that I still owe $4,500 on the lien.
My Dad was a Ford dealer and I've grown up with Fords all my life, and have owned five Fords personally. I am indescribably upset at Ford for not standing behind their vehicles and recalling these cars. This has created a hardship for me and if Ford doesn't stand up and do the right thing, I will no longer own another Ford product.
