Owners report the stalling while driving problem is caused by the throttle body needing replacement. The problem typically occurs at low mileage & so the issue has been covered under warranty -- although by now, the 2015 Edge is generally past the full warranty period.
Before I poked a hole it in, it was a complete windshield that looked iced over when I walked outta the gym. Chilly morning, I was indeed using the defrost on the rear windshield before I parked it. I purchased this vehicle 5 days ago. So I’m sure you can hear the enjoyment in my writing. It's costing me $350 to be replaced. My neighbor has an Edge with a crack in the rear windshield. It’s only a matter of time. We depend on these vehicles, 350... is a big loss for me.
My rear windshield exploded just like other Ford owners but Ford would not cover the cost. I had to submit a claim that cost $2400 for the repairs. My spoiler had to be replaced, needed a new windshield wiper motor and new glass. This should be fords responsibility
Driving on highway and all of sudden BOOM! Was I shot at ? I look in rearview and see rear windshield shattered. Nobody around me, nothing above me. Other than being shaken up, all is OK. Certainly unacceptable. From what I see here, I'm not alone. I will be in touch with Ford.
I just pulled into garage, and when walking to house I heard a loud pop and glass breaking. Glass broke across the bottom of rear window, then proceeded to crack through out the rest of the window, eventually falling into cargo area. Very similar to what others here described.
Opened my garage this morning, then did the remote start. Got my kids in the car, and as I shut the car door I hear glass shatter. I automatically thought it was just ice falling from my car (it’s freezing outside with ice and snow). Then I realized my back window was completely shattered. Joy!

Sometime overnight the rear glass shattered on our 2015 Ford Edge while sitting in the garage. My wife was getting ready to leave for work in the morning when she noticed the glass pieces laying on the floor. As we were looking at it we could hear the glass cracking as pieces fell off. My first thought was the rear defrost but this car was inside all night where it's 50 degrees so the rear defrost was not on. She took my truck to work because it rendered the vehicle undriveable. I'm glad this happened in the garage, and not on the highway.
After a few quick searches I realized this problem has happened to many other people regarding the Ford Edge rear glass. As it just happened today, I will call Ford first to see if this is anything that is currently being covered with the numerous issues. After speaking with them I may end up calling Safelite. I'm sure this is not an easy fix so I'm not sure how long the vehicle will be out of commission. Anytime you shut the door more glass falls out of the back window so I'm positive it's not safe to drive on the road.
There have been no recent incidents or other problems regarding the lift gate and rear window so this is unique and the fact that it happened inside without extreme hot or cold. It is wintertime of year and the outside temperature is ranging around 35 to 40 degrees. But inside the garage remains a pretty constant 50.
Was getting into the car to take my son to school. We walked to the car from the rear, so I am sure there was nothing cracked or odd with the rear window then. I got in and shut the door and as my son got in and shut his door, we heard what sounded like a pop and crash. Turned around and there was a giant hole in my rear windshield! There was glass all over the driveway and inside the hatch. Thank goodness no one was in the backseat!! We had not even moved the car yet! It had been raining (no hail) the night before and the temp was only around 45 degrees - not subzero or even close to freezing!
I called Ford to lodge a complaint and check if there was a recall. Of course no recall, and the man cut me off after telling me that I would need to prove I wasn't at fault. How do you prove that there was no impact when there is no glass left? Now, my husband just called from the glass repair place saying that the spoiler needs to be removed to fix it and they cannot get it off. So, now we need to go to body shop hoping they can deal with it! The original estimate to fix it is $499 (we have a $500 deductible.). Not sure what it will end up as now that there is more involved.
I am fuming right now as we have to pay for all of this and did nothing more than shut the car door! This should NOT be happening!!
Car was fine & sitting in the parking lot. When I came out to the car (very cold weather) the edges of the entire window were "alligatored" and the window fell in when I started to open the lift gate. Horrible experience and I understand that this is a known defect that Ford has ignored as they have with so many others including their V8 engine. I will never own another Ford!
I came out of work to a very damaged back windshield. The police didn't feel it was a break in but that the windshield exploded. I spoke to Ford and nothing is covered under my extended warranty and there hasn't been any recalls. My car just turned 3 years old and this is very frustrating that Ford will not replace. We are now having to pay a deductible, new back windshield motor and wiper, costing a fortune for nothing that I did!
Started the car up early in the morning and as I backed up, pieces of the window fell into my truck area. No idea what caused the entire window to shatter. There was no debris around the parked car or in the back seat that I could find.
While driving down the interstate, I heard an extremely loud pop; my rear windshield spontaneously broke into a bazillion pieces! Nothing hit or landed on my car, I didn't hit any bumps or anything, it just shattered. I pulled over and when I shut my door the windshield started falling into the back of my car. I'm thankful that my children were not in the back of the car at the time and that the roads were free and clear of snow and ice. Fortunately, with a little pressing, it was covered under the extended warranty.
There wasn't anything special happening - No sub-zero temperatures - No rocks or stones - Nobody slamming doors - Nothing preventing the trunk from closing. Then without any warning it just crystalized into a million tiny little pieces. The rear window just shattered for no apparent reason at all. So who is to blame for this?? Do I call my Ford dealership and ask if maybe there is a defect in the back window glass?? Do I make an insurance claim and pay the $500 deductible and face increased rates for the next 4 years when it clearly wasn't an accident?? Do I have to cough up the repair money for something that was not my fault??
Ready to head home after a day of shopping, just pulled out of the parking spot when we heard a loud boom. I pulled the car back into a parking spot to see what happened, only to realize that my rear windshield shattered for no reason. There was no one around, nothing that had fallen from a building or the sky. My rear windshield shattered from one corner to the other, all the way across the bottom and then the glass continue to crack up the center of the window. Small shards of glass continued to break off and drop on both the outside and inside of my car. Called FORD roadside assistance and was told that no one would accept my service call because they deemed it a liability issue. After several other phone calls and no help, I had to break the rest of the window and then wrap it with a tarp and drive an hour and a half home in 26 degree weather. FORD is not covering it under warranty, my insurance is. Luckily no one was hurt and my dogs were not in the back of the car.
Driving about 40km/h temp was -4 deg C. Nothing overhead. All of a sudden BOOM. Look in mirror to see my rear window completely shattered. Pulled over ASAP and checked it out. As soon as I shut my door the glass let go and fell into the trunk space. Ford has initially denied coverage but I'm trying to convince them still.
