CarComplaints.com Notes: There was plenty of hope that Ford would fix their “door ajar†warning light issue for the 2014 model year. This widespread problem has caused the previous 3 model years to stay on top of defect trend lists.
So far, the 2014 Edge doesn't share the poor reputation of prior model years.

About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
While driving the vehicle on the highway between 65 and 75 mph, strong exhaust smell in the cabin, through ac vents. This happens also upon acceleration. This happens on long road trips. This carbon monoxide inside the vehicle. Have taken vehicle to the dealership three times and they are not able to fix the problem. The first time was shortly after purchase of the vehicle. It has happened a total nine times so far. First time we went to dealership, they stated the had just got a technical service bulletin about this issue. No notification to consumers. As everyone knows, no notification to consumers if not a recall. Ford knows about this problem and we feel that they are ignoring the obvious. It's pass due for an investigation. We have started the necessary protocol for a repurchase. We do not want to drive a vehicle that is toxic to our health.
This problem has been confirmed to exist in both a 2011 and a 2014 Ford Edge. With a passenger weighting 72-75 lbs in the front passenger seat, the air bag turns on and off depending on how the passenger is sitting on the seat. This same passenger has traveled almost 50,000 miles in a 2011 mustang which has a similar sensor system and has never had the air bag turn on. We are able to reproduce this problem at will. This information suggests a problem in the Ford Edge with the software that monitors the front passenger seat sensors and determines when to turn on the front passenger air bag. This was reported to Ford on 07/22 and we checked on it on 09/23 and there was no update, indicating that they have not taken any action on this.
I was driving down I-25 with my spouse doing apprx. 75mph when my sunroof exploded. We are fortunate no one was injured. Glass did fall on my head as I was taking it to the dealership. Ford refuses to cover it under warranty even though the dealership states it exploded from the inside. Ford does not know what caused the problem but just states it is not covered under warranty. If the covering was opened someone would have been seriously injured. This is a huge safety concern and has happened to several vehicles but Ford refuses to do a recall. It is going to take someone getting seriously injured before Ford recognizes the problem as a manufacturer defect.
