CarComplaints.com Notes: There was plenty of hope that Ford would fix their “door ajar” warning light issue for the 2014 model year. This widespread problem has caused the previous 3 model years to stay on top of defect trend lists.

So far, the 2014 Edge doesn't share the poor reputation of prior model years.

2014 ford edge w/ 100,000 miles. Driving along in town when head lights went OFF! Parking lights were on, taillights were on, just no headlights. Retired ford mechanic/ started looking over everything. Activated headlight switch, turn signal switch, high beam switch, flashers etc. Nothing. Wiggled and pulled all fuses and relays in under-hood panel, Nothing! Wiggled and pulled at all wire looms and headlight connections...Nothing!

Slammed the hood and lights came on ??????????

Problem has not re-occurred yet

Update from Jun 28, 2017: The fact that the lights behavior was so erratic, it was hard to diagnose. The end result was very basic. Believe it or not both filaments were bad. The breaks were so small that they were not visible. Even tapping on the bulb directly, did not show the breaks or make the lights come on/off.. When working we could not get the bulbs to fail.

A very simple problem that was very difficult to narrow down. The fact that the filament failure was not visible on inspection was the hardest part of narrowing down the trouble.
