CarComplaints.com Notes: There was plenty of hope that Ford would fix their “door ajar” warning light issue for the 2014 model year. This widespread problem has caused the previous 3 model years to stay on top of defect trend lists.

So far, the 2014 Edge doesn't share the poor reputation of prior model years.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The service engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed but no failures were found. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that several days later while driving 25 MPH, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer where it was diagnosed but no failures were found. The service engine and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic and it was diagnosed and determined that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. After further investigation, the contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 13N03 (Throttle Body Extended Coverage). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.

The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to be restarted. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 13N03. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 66,000.

The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light would suddenly illuminate along with an audible chime, the vehicle would no longer accelerate when pressing the accelerator pedal and the vehicle's speed would reduce. After stopping the vehicle the engine would remain on but the vehicle would no longer drive forward or in reverse. After turning the engine off and restarting the vehicle, the failure would self-correct and the vehicle would operate as normal. The contact indicated that the failure had occurred on multiple occasions and had also occurred while driving on a busy freeway. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The contact was concerned that the failure was due to a faulty throttle body. The failure mileage was 87,000.
