This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Vehicle door shows open all the time and comes on during driving down the road, this will light the dome lights in the car at night and makes it hard to see, very unsafe. Also car will not lock when door latch sticks or whatever it is doing. Flashes error when car is moving to shift to park.
Door ajar warning on driver side door causes dome light to stay on. Slamming the door will sometimes make the light go away. But usually have to drive with dome light on and warning message beeping and flashing every time I stop.
Door ajar light stays on even when drivers door is firmly closed. Won't allow doors to lock when driving, and an error message comes on to "shift the car into park"
Driver door ajar once in motion. Sometimes it locks properly but other times opening and closing will not fix it. Dont' know what else to do to resolve the problem. It is very unsafe to be driving with this issue.
Door ajar light stays on even when door is closed. This keeps dome lights on and side mirror lights along with the doors not locking which is a secure/safety issue. Also the fact that the dome light can blind the driver at night and this runs the battery down. Ford dealerships say its a known defect for new and used vehicles and I opened up a case with Ford and they refuse to offset the costs to fix it. They just say keep your receipt in case they ever do a recall. There is a petition on line because it affects so many people. Ford needs to address this to avoid lawsuits! its a burden to consumers because the cost to fix is over $500 at a dealership. This happens when stationary and in motion. My wife and baby almost ran off the road because the light won't go off at night and blinds her view. Plus it has left her stranded at work with a dead battery. See link for details. Door ajar warning keeps coming on when the door is fully shut. When it is showing, the car is unable to lock the doors as the car is moving and the lights stay on making it very difficult to drive at night. Not having the doors lock is a major safety issue as we have young children that ride in the car. Also, it allows others to open the doors unexpectedly. Ford should stand up and fix the safety issue. Beyond the safety issue the battery is being drained as the lights stay on and we don't notice it until we go to use the car again.
The door latch seems to be a common problem with Ford vehicles and to date havent been recalled. My vehicle keeps showing the door is ajar no matter how gentle or hard I close the door. This causes problems like the interior light not shutting off which is a safety hazard during nighttime. This also drains the vehicle battery. The door won't lock which is another safety issue as anyone can open.
Vehicle lost power and would not accelerate when gas pedal was pressed but it never shut down. Vehicle stalled but the air conditioning, radio, windows etc continued to work. Vehicle's engine stayed on and continued to sputter and the "yellow wrench" engine warning light came on. The vehicle was in a straight forward motion, moving less than 35 mph, in use for less than 5 minutes, the weather was hot and the roadway was dry. The vehicle eventually stopped in the middle of the roadway partially in the intersection. After some research, apparently there are others who have had a similar experience resulting in the replacement of the throttle body assembly.
Door ajar indicator stays on when door is obviously closed. Interior lights remain on which makes for unsafe driving at night. Happens almost every time I get in the car.
The driver door ajar sensor is coming on even though I have had this in for service twice. Ford has not issued a recall, but this problem is occurring in many vehicles. When I take it into the dealership they know the codes to try to fix the problem without looking them up in the computer. The dealer said they can only clean the sensor and not replace the latch because there is not a recall
Door sensor is not working. The signal comes on that show door ajar when the door is shut tightly. Also a dinging noise starts as soon as I put the key in the ignition, without even turning the key.
The driver door ajar light comes on and the shift to park warning comes on the bells dings and all inside lights stay on.whether the car is on or not, the lights stay on. I've had to replace my battery because the lights won't shut off. I cannot open and close the door to get the warning to go off. Also the dash lights an overhead lights will come on when no one has even been in the car it's making me crazy!! I called Ford customer service ad the told me to try to get my third party warranty to cover the repairs.this is all bull crap, Ford needs to recall and repair everyone's problem.
I was at a gas station. I forgot to put the car into "park". however, I was able to take out the key and lock the door. I had my back to the car when I was putting my credit card into the pump. I heard screams as people ran out of the market and yelled that the car was moving down a hill. As I turned I saw my car crash into a parked trailer (18 wheel type.) although there was a lot of damage to my front end and I bent the steel step on the cab no one was hurt. My dog merely flew into the well of the car. I have had many friends check their cars and no one was able to take out the key unless the car was in park. However, these cars were not a Ford Edge. Since the accident I have tested my car many times and I can always pull the key out. As you know when a car is in drive it acts like its in neutral and can react to inertia. At the time I would not have noticed that the car was on a slanted driveway. A child in my car could have had a serious injury. Someone not paying attention could have been hit by my car. I checked with my dealer and was told that there are no recalls on the Ford Edge about my safety issue. Local dealer not interested in helping and I can not reach a live person at the Ford's world headquarters. There is no prompt for a safety concern.. as of now I am responsible for the damges to my car and to the cab. Left front bumper and light damaged.
The door latch sensor doesn't seem to be working. The door is closed but is says it's not. I can not lock the doors and my overhead lights stay on and the battery will die. I've taken it into the dealership before and they say the sensors are dirty and they cleaned them, but it didn't fix the problem. It happens at all times (stationary or moving)
