CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Edge has its fair share of problems, but chief among them is an annoying “door ajar” warning light that won’t shut off even when the door is most definitely closed. While the retina-burning, ever-present false reminder on your dashboard is bad, it points to a deeper problem that can drain the battery, leave the doors unlocked while in motion, or render the key fob useless.

I FELT LIKE I WAS LOSING POWER, SO DURING MY FAITHFUL OIL CHANGE I INQUIRED AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT, I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE TURBO AND ABOUT A THOUSAND. THEN THEY CAME BACK AND SAID I ALSO NEED A THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT WHICH NOW BRINGS THE PRICE UP TO 2784.00. I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK. I HAVE MAINTAINED MY VEHICLE AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP FAITHFULLY, PURCHASED AN ADDITIONAL 2008 FORD FUSION FOR MY DAUGHTER AND AM A PAST OWNER OF A 2005 FORD TAURUS. I ASKED HOW THIS COULD HAPPEN TO A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 95K MILES? THEN I DID MY RESEARCH SAW THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, I CONTACTED FORD CORPORATE OFFICE AND AM WAITING ON A RESPONSE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY AND THIS SHOULD BE AT THE COST OF FORD. I DIDN'T PURCHASE A NEW VEHICLE TO HAVE TO PUT IN ALMOST 3K IN 3-1/2YEARS. SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME THIS SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING OR IS THIS A NORMAL THING SO I KNOW HOW MUCH ENERGY I NEED TO FIGHT THIS. I AM EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED AND NOW I WISH I WOULD HAVE WENT ON AND BROUGHT THAT HONDA. ANY IDEAS, SUGGESTIONS?

I bought the car from Ford, as a certified used car, in November 2015. The throttle body went bad in January, and, after they couldn't find the problem and I had to pay for a rental car for a day, they gave it back and it happened again. This time, they covered my rental and replaced the part with a $100 deductible.

It is now June, and the throttle body is bad again, but the car is 3000 miles past it's warranty limit, so they want $655.00 plus tax to fix it again.

1. The part they replaced should be covered under some type of warranty.

2. I can get the part online for under $200, and replace it myself with 3 screws.

3. When I type in the problem online, it is a common thing, but it has not been recalled. WHY??

Vehicle should all in the middle of driving was almost involved in a wreck one that could've been my taking. Vehicle cut off on me three times on the way to the dealership to have it fixed and that was a 3 mile ride. I Googled the situation and there are many many people who had the same thing happen to them. Someone could end up dying due to this. They've done a recall on the mu lawn and a few other four vehicles but for some reason they have not done it with the edge. This is another reason why they made major profits recently. It is coming from service too.

Driving down the interstate in the fast lane with cruise control set at 80 mph. SUV surged forward and then went to 0 mph. With the grace of God I managed to get safely on the shoulder of the road by chugging along at a snails pace. I called road side assistance for a tow and sat for 1 hour and 45 minutes looking across the interstate (in 93 degree heat) at the Ford dealership where I bought the vehicle.

The Ford Dealership argued with me because I told him that the orange engine/wrench warning light did not come on until the tow truck started my vehicle to try to prevent winching it on the trailer. Guess what? When the diagnostic codes were ran........this dumb blonde was right! There were no warning codes listed. I was also told it sounded like the throttle body might have went out but usually that didn't happen until 250,000-300,000 miles was on the vehicle. Of course, it was the throttle body and that cost me another $452.00.

They did check the cabin air filter and said it needed to be replaced. I agreed. What was another $25.00 since the air conditioner cost me $924.00.

WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOSS POWER TO TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE AND ENDED UP GOING 1 MPH. COULD NOT ACCELERATE AND BARELY MISSED BEING STRUCK BY OTHER VEHICLES. "WRENCH" WARNING INDICATOR CAME ON AND I PULLED MY AUTO OVER TO SIDE OF ROADWAY. TURNED THE IGNITION OFF, WAITED 1 MINUTE AND RESTARTED AND THE AUTO WAS NORMAL AGAIN.

DAY LATER PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC SAME EPISODE AGAIN JUST BARLEY AVOIDING A COLLISION AGAIN. DEALERSHIP ADVISES FAULTY ELECTRIC THROTTLE BODY DEFECTIVE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED IMMEDIATELY BEFORE THIS RESULTS IN A FATALITY. I HAD TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FATALITY. WHEN THE VEHICLE GOES LIMP YOU ARE POWERLESS TO DO ANYTHING IF YOUR LUCKY TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT GETTING HIT FROM THE REAR OR T-BONED.

My daughter's 2013 edge was bought used with ~19000 miles on it. At ~21000 miles the car, when driving had the "wrench" symbol come on and the car started to lose power. It was still drive-able but engine seemed to rev high to low. She made it to work and I switched cars to get the problem diagnosed the next day. When I drove it the problem was gone along with the warning "wrench". My daughter works a late shift and not knowing whether this problem will show up again is nerve racking. I will bring the car to Ford for there 2 cents.

The car went into limp mode on July 28. For $420, the dealer fixed a sensor.

The car went back into limp mode on August 18.Now the dealer says the problem is the throttle box and wants to charge me an additional $350. I looked up throttle box problems and it appears this is a major issue for Ford right now, as there is an investigation going on.

I don't think I should have to may the additional money.
