CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Edge has its fair share of problems, but chief among them is an annoying “door ajar” warning light that won’t shut off even when the door is most definitely closed. While the retina-burning, ever-present false reminder on your dashboard is bad, it points to a deeper problem that can drain the battery, leave the doors unlocked while in motion, or render the key fob useless.

Don't understand why there is not a Ford recall to fix this problem. On internet it is a common problem that Ford knows about but won't issue a recall. It looks like it will continue to get worse. Might lead to battery drain, doors not locking and safety issues. Time to make Ford live up to its responsibilities.

Door latch has a known problem per the technician but as it is not a safety issue it has not been recalled which I find unacceptable.

The "idiot" light and sounds come on while driving telling you the driver door is not latched and that the engine is on-duh, I am driving even though the door is shut, the latch is not sensing so it is a huge annoyance.

The other issue is that when I exit my vehicle I have to shut the door several times to get it to engage even though it's shut, but the interior lights remain on which could drain my battery.

I would not recommend Ford based on this-they manufactured it, so they need to eat the cost and fix it. I would expect them to fix this for free as they made the part, put the vehicle together and as I said, it is a known problem.

They want to charge for their technician to take it apart, diagnose it , order the part, just so they can do it all over again. What a racket.

Driver's Door Ajar light stays on at all times. Car beeps whenever it is stopped. Also interior lights stay on for very long periods of time... draining battery life. Car cannot be locked while being driven because of this problem.

Was told by dealership that this would cost over $500 to repair.

So irritating.

I have had the dome light stay on for over a year now from the driver side door sensor not realizing the door is shut. I have to stand there for God knows how long opening the door and closing it again and hitting the lock button off my keys to see if the lights go off. I'm a mother of two, 6 and 2. I've had to stand outside with them crying, sleeping, whatever doing this OVER and OVER to make sure my light goes off. Night after night, constantly doing this in parking lots after turning my car off. CONSTANTLY!!!!

In the last 2 months, my driver side READ door is now having issues. The info says it's the rear door and the driver door now. So going down the road we have that awful ding letting me know that it's not shut WHEN IT IS. Once again having to stand outside with babies now having to OPEN AND SHUT BOTH DOORS AND LOCKING IT AND UNLOCKING IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER UNTIL THE LIGHTS GO OFF. WHILE I HAVE CRYING SCREAMING BABIES AT TIMES. WHILE IT'S FREEZING COLD OR SCORCHING HOT. I've even had instances to which the light would not be on once I go into my home and hours later after going outside multiple times and the light not being on to walk by the door and see my lights on due to the stupid sensor thinking the door is not shut so it automatically turns my lights on and has run down my battery due to this happening in the middle of the night and I am unknown of it until the next morning!

Why haven't I taken it to be fixed, because I am NOT going to pay another $400 to fix something on my vehicle like this when I still have an extended warranty and am already paying a huge amount for this vehicle. This may not be a recall situation but it is a major DEFAULT situation that FORD needs to handle.

THIS IS SO FREAKING FRUSTRATING. THE DAMN DOOR DOES NOT LATCH PROPERLY AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS DO NOT GO OFF. I HAD TO REPLACE MY BATTERY BECAUSE OF THE OVERHEAD LIGHTS NOT TURNING OFF. I HAVE SLAMMED THE DOOR SHUT IN ORDER FOR THE DOOR TO ENGAGE AND FOR THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TO TURN OFF. I HAVE DONE THAT SO MUCH THAT THE SLAMMING OF THE DOOR NO LONGER WORKS. I HAVE TO DISENGAGE THE BATTERY CABLE AT NIGHT SO THAT THE BATTERY DOES NOT DRAIN. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE FOR 2011 THRU 2013 FORD EDGES. ITS F*&$ING HIGH WAY ROBBERY FOR THE DEALERS TO CHARGE BETWEEN $400-$450 TO CHANGE A FREAKING DOOR LATCH. FORD SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR PUTTING FORD OWNERS THRU THIS. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME PURCHASING A FORD AND I HAVE REGRETTED DOING SO. I SHOULD HAVE STUCK WITH A JAPANESE MADE VEHICLE. I OWNED A HONDA CIVIC AND A NISSAN ALTIMA BOTH OF WHICH I PURCHASED BRAND NEW. I NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES WITH EITHER CAR AND I PUT OVER 150K MILES ON BOTH CARS. HERE I BUY A CHEAP ASS FORD AND HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES AND THE FORD DEALERS SUCK ASS. I SHOULD KICK MY ASS FOR BUYING A CHEAP ASS FORD.... I GUESS IT IS TRUE WHAT THEY SAY WHAT FORD STANDS FOR ( FIX OR REPAIR DAILY)

This driver door ajar issue came on while the car was under warranty at it's 34xxx kilometer millage. The dealer service department did TSB on it and the problem went away 'temporarily'. After the warranty expired it started happening again, slowly in it's 60xxx kilometers range and now it is becoming more frequent. So that now it is pretty permanent. They say the whole cost to replace the latch is around CAN$500 !! When I said does it mean every 30k we have to come and change this part? They say: well, door latch works for 10 years.

Why the first one didn't work for 10 years? Why they didn't change the latch in first repair until to let it past the warranty. There are 4 latches in a car that means potentially you have to change more than just one latches depending on your use of the car and the size of your family so you may end up spending $2000 every 30k. It will be my LAST FORD car and will recommend everyone to STAY AWAY from it....

The driver door sensor or something is faulty. Lots of complaints. no matter how many times you open and close the door it chimes and says it is ajar and the lights stay on. It is dangerous and annoying, and incredibly frustrating. We own 3 Fords~ 2 Edges and a Taurus . Ford wants nearly $500 to fix, which is outrageous. It should be fixed under a warranty for faulty parts.

The problem started just before Thanksgiving, the door ajar alert light for the driver side door continued to come on even after we slammed shut the door many times. It is annoying as well as a safety concern not knowing what electrical fault could be detected by the car system. I read online that it is a common problem and cost hundreds to rectify. Are any any permanent solutions to this problem? Please help.

No amount of slamming the door will make the light go off. It's pretty random. More often than not, the driver's door ajar stays on when it shouldn't. We have to drive with it on and when you slow down, you're prompted to shift to park and close the door. When you're exiting the car, you have to make absolutely sure that the light is off or the interior dome lights and possibly the dash lights will stay on, potentially causing the battery to run out of juice. This sometimes requires shutting the door 10 or more times in hopes that the lights will actually shut off. I feel like an idiot who just bought this car used like this, talk about buyer's remorse!

Door ajar light on, audio bell goes off, dome light stays on. Sometimes battery drains and car won't start. At night the dome light stays for five minute making it dangerous to drive. This is the second door I have had to have repaired. Assuming the other doors go bad, I will have spent $1800 on these faulty latches. Ford is very much aware of this problem and refuses to resolve the design issues. My next vehicle will not be a Ford product.

It's been going on about 3 or 4 months now, if not longer. It constantly makes my car alarm go off at all times of the night. I live in an apartment complex so this not only affects me but every one else around me because I get out of bed at least 5-6 times a night to turn the damn thing off. Every single day I crawl over my center console just so the door thinks it's shut all the time I just avoid using it.

A couple of months ago I noticed as I was backing up out of my driveway that the "left back door ajar" light was on. I stopped and opened the door and closed it several times. The light never went off but after I drove a couple feet the light went off. Once I arrived at my location I then noticed the inside lights would not go off and my doors wouldn't lock. I was so annoyed because my laptop and work items were still in the car. I stood outside waiting for the lights to go off. It took over 10 min. UNBELIEVABLE. In the next few days this became a nuisance. I tried everything! What angered me the most is that I just had my truck in for servicing a few weeks ago and told them that my drivers side headlight is showing that it is out. They were supposed to fix it but a few days later the light came back on again. This has been so frustrating because when I back out of my driveway the inside light will not go off until I pull off. Therefore, the glare from the inside light is causing me to run over my grass and everything that I can't see. Yes my warranty has run out but if this is happening to more than 1 person then someone should look into this. At first I wanted to say that it's not such a big deal but why doesn't Ford just fix the problem. At night I don't want people looking in to my vehicle and during the day I can't tell what I've locked or not locked.

This problem occurred in year 2 of ownership of new vehicle. At that time dealer stated SOP was to clean the contacts and not replace. Cleaning of contacts lasted until warranty expired. Now the latch never senses the door closed. This causes several problems. 1. The doors do not lock with the car in motion, 2. Lights stay on for long periods of time, 3. Antitheft will not arm because the system does not see the door closed.
