CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Edge has its fair share of problems, but chief among them is an annoying “door ajar” warning light that won’t shut off even when the door is most definitely closed. While the retina-burning, ever-present false reminder on your dashboard is bad, it points to a deeper problem that can drain the battery, leave the doors unlocked while in motion, or render the key fob useless.

The door ajar sensor not working is safety issue that really is frustrating. I have read hundreds of complaints, called my local dealer and Ford motor company and they don't care. This is more then just an inconvenience, it makes me a distracted driver as I am always looking at the warning light on the dashboard. Whe I need to back up at night the inside lights are all on and with the glare I can not see out my windows, I have nearly backed into pedestrians. My lights remain on for long periods of time. I have already had to replace my battery once. If I were the only one to have a problem I agree that it is my repair, but since almost everyone I talk to and the number of complaints on all have the same problem Ford has installed faulty parts. I wish Ford would take heed and repair this problem.

I bought the Edge used off a car lot. It did not chime till I got out about 40 miles away. It chimes, the door ajar alert on dashboard stays on, interior light comes on. And does not stop. Tired opening and shutting door but door ajar and chime stays on. Reported to FORD manufacture and was given case number but nothing has come of it. This is three months of annoying door chime when you stop, open and shut the Edge door. Taking to dealship tomorrow.

I had electrical problems with this vehicle from the git go. After 6 months I had the dash system replaced after being told they could not find anything . At that time I was told they could not find anything going on with door and it did quit for a long time then would start doing it again off and on. Now it's more on than off! I would not recommend a Ford edge to my worst enemy.

Come on Ford motor company you are better than this!

This is a mojor issue, You can not lock the doors and the dome light stays on even when the door is shut tight. This will cause a dead battery in the morning. Ford need to get their crap together soon.

Door ajar light stays on after door is secured. When door ajar light is on, the sensors keep the interior lights on and this drains my battery after I leave the car to go into work or home at night. I had to replace one battery so far at $115.00 and I've pulled all of the interior lights so my new battery won't drain so fast. This leaves me in the dark when getting into/out of the car when it's dark causing possible safety concerns. I have tried using WD-40 to loosen the sensor/latches with a little success, but for the past 3 weeks this hasn't worked.

I'm driving a 2013 Ford Edge and one day as me and my wife was traveling the door ajar light came on. When the vehicle stop the vehicle would register "put the vehicle in park." The doors will not lock while this light is on. Sometimes when the temperature is warm it will catch, the light will go off and the doors will lock when the vehicle starts moving. The chime will also ring after the vehicle is stopped.

I took the vehicle to ford and they wanted to charge me $400+ because they said the motor was bad. Of course with other maintenance issues to tend to it is not feasible to pay that kind of money when it's not preventing the vehicle from moving or will cause a problem if the vehicle is in motion.

The car was two years old and the door latch needed to replaced. Just like everyone description of the problem here, but with the added factor that at 3am my car alarm goes off. It took me a while to find out what the problem was and of course it happened just over the 30000 mile warranty so its not covered. Had to replace the door latch because cleaning it didn't work for me and I didn't like unplugging the battery every night in order to sleep through he night. Never had a car with 30000 miles and have door latch issues. I will never buy another Ford again or American car again.

Here we are a year later and now it's the driver side back door with the door latch failing. I have decided to start posting all my problems I've had with this truck since Ford won't listen. I hope people reading this information about Ford decide to never buy a Ford. I have a 99 Eclipse with well over 130k miles on it and never had an issue with it. I can understand the drivers door latch going out but come on Ford! Were a family of three and the drivers side back door never gets used my child sits in a baby car seat behind the passenger side.

So my question to Ford is, Why the hell would the latch go out when that door is never used? Are you kidding me! I will get rid of this truck as soon as possible. I shouldn't be paying for a car that has so many issues.

This is a safety hazard! Ford needs to own up to this problem because it will end up causing a wreck! And Ford knows about it- the interior light stays on blinding the driver at night and the locks won't lock when the interior light is on!

Had this fixed the first time on Oct. 2015. Now its doing the same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bought it used and thought it was in great shape and had low mileage. Now we know why the previous owner got rid of it. Have a call in to Ford dealer here (Mullinax) to see if they have a warranty on it. We bought it at a Toyota dealership (Earl Stewart) last October. this is most certainly a safety issue for the following reasons. 1- interior lights stay on and are blinding when you try to back up. 2- alerts are annoying and represent a distraction while you are driving. 3- try having an intelligent business conversation on the blue tooth when the alerts are ringing. 4- not a very comfortable feeling when you're driving with the doors unlocked. 5- not very comfortable feeling when the grand children are in the car and the doors are unlocked. 6- great invitation for thief's when interior lights are on in the vehicle when it's parked in the driveway at night. 7- waiting for that winter morning when it won't start because the lights were on all night.

The door ajar light would not turn off even though the rear hatch was closed. When driving at night the interior lights would turn on because the door ajar light was on. This was very dangerous driving at night! Almost had an accident because of this problem. I was forced to get this fixed because of the danger of driving at night. This cost me $420.00 - This is obviously a defect with all the locks on the 2013 Ford Edge. Ford needs to recall the locks before someone has an accident due to interior lights "randomly" turning on at night.

I was driving down the road and the interior lights came on. The door light ajar sensor went bad and the car sensed that the door was open. I was completely blinded and couldn't see anything. I called Ford and they said they won't fix it but are aware of the problem. I filed a safety complaint with the NHTSA and told them what happened. Ford said that they haven't had ENOUGH complaints to warrant a recall. I said, what does it take, someone getting innocently hurt? Shame on Ford. Terrible relations and attention to safety.

Edge SEL 3.5L V6

Door ajar indicator stays on, even when door is closed and latched. This causes a number of issues: the door chime sounds when car starts in motion, which is very annoying in stop-and-go traffic; doors will not stay locked, which is a safety concern; interior dome light stays lit at night when first starting in motion, which is a safety issue.

I have tried a number of online "solutions" such as cleaning the sensor with compressed air and WD40, but this has not worked. I was hoping that the issue, which obviously is a manufacturing/design defect, would be covered in a recall notice. So far it has not and I hesitate to pay several hundred $ for a dealer "fix" that does not really resolve the problem.

While still under warranty I brought my vehicle into Browns Ford Johnstown, NY for the door ajar light staying on & a oil change. The tech told me he cleaned the contacts and it should be okay now. When I looked at my receipt there was nothing about the door ajar light staying on. I brought it to their attention and after several requests they issue a new receipt with the door ajar issue noted.

Almost eight months later the light stayed on again. Brought it in for service again and this time I was over the warranty period. I explained that I had brought the car in under warranty for this issue and it should be cover again. The tech told me that was almost eight months ago and they would not cover it. I argued a while and got it covered. Again they cleaned the contacts. He then stated if it happen again they would need to replace the sensor and it would be about $400.00. I told them that if this was corrected the first time and the sensor was replaced I would not be back here. I hope I don't have pay further issues but I can tell you there will be a fight if they try to charge me.

Ford needs to step up and fix this issue.

My driver door is "sensing" that the door is open; not shut tight. It is very frustrating and distracting to have your car alerting you that your door is ajar; when it is clearly shut tight. I feel this is a major safety concern since your overhead lamps remain on for a period of time once you start your car and the doors do not self lock since the car is "sensing" that the door is open. I have tried cleaning and lubricating as other forums have suggested and nothing works. I suspect it is an overall bad sensor.
