Door Ajar Light Stays On
2013 Ford Edge (Page 13 of 20)
This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Ford dealer.
CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Edge has its fair share of problems, but chief among them is an annoying “door ajar†warning light that won’t shut off even when the door is most definitely closed. While the retina-burning, ever-present false reminder on your dashboard is bad, it points to a deeper problem that can drain the battery, leave the doors unlocked while in motion, or render the key fob useless.

My 2013 Ford Edge has had this problem, with malfunctioning door closure sensors, where the dash warnings are on indicating that the doors are open (they're not) and with the interior lights coming on at low speeds, with bell alarms at low speed for the driver's door, in +2/4 doors for the past approximately 50,000 miles (now at 80,500 miles.) It was "fixed" in the driver's door while under warranty, then the problem returned after several months again. When I took it back into the Ford dealer, they wanted $500 to fix a problem that had already, allegedly, been fixed, and then would only warranty it for 2 years. I only consented to having the sensor "cleaned" which would "fix" the problem for an undefined period of time - for this they wanted almost $400, until I complained and it was reduced to $260. Well, it only "fixed" the problem for a month. Every time I am in the car, there are dash warnings that one or both doors are open (they're not). The driver's door is particularly distracting because the interior lights come on at low speeds - every time I stop, the lights come on. This is a problem at night in particular and interferes with night vision.
I refuse to pay $500 per malfunctioning door sensor, every 2 years (length of warranty for repair of problem that they say will likely return) in order to drive this car. This is a known problem, which was acknowledged at the Ford dealer. I was given a Ford complaint # to call - but it is not open evening or weekends, AND there is no way to register a complaint online with Ford. I am so incredibly annoyed by this experience and the customer service barriers, in an otherwise reliable vehicle. I see similar complaints, and various"hacks" (cut a wire, or break a piece of plastic in the latch, or repeatedly spray a lot of cleaning fluid into the latch and work the latch for temporary possible relief) to get the alarm messages and interior lights to stop, all over the internet, yet Ford won't step up and issue a recall? They issued a recall for door latch problems on several other of their models, hmm, do you suppose that these are the same door latch and sensor mechanisms? Not a stretch to imagine. About willing to try one of the permanent suggested hacks on YouTube, but it seems that may result in no interior lights coming on automatically when entering the driver's door, which also would be a problem.
Why would I purchase another Ford if they won't support their own product?
Thanks for this website, I can see the logic of reporting each instance of this sensor problem on this website, but literally, I would be making several entries per day at this point....just multiply my complaint times the past 3 years, approximately 2 times per day, times two doors, to obtain a frequency estimate.
