CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Edge has its fair share of problems, but chief among them is an annoying “door ajar” warning light that won’t shut off even when the door is most definitely closed. While the retina-burning, ever-present false reminder on your dashboard is bad, it points to a deeper problem that can drain the battery, leave the doors unlocked while in motion, or render the key fob useless.

The door lock sensor has become defective on the car causing the door ajar warning to stay on at all times. Being a nurse, I go to work very early and travel for 30 miles each way. When this isn't sensor isn't working the doors will not lock while the key is in the ignition and there is a constant dinging noise to close the door again every time I stop. Driving to downtown dallas is very unsafe in the my car now. The interior lights stay on for miles and it is hard to drive in the dark with the interior lights on. Two dealerships say this is a known problem on the Ford Edge and they have received bulletins on the problem but no recall. They say the sensor needs to be taken out and cleaned, it is not broken therefore the warranty nor extended warranty will not cover the $400 repair. Please help make Ford fix this problem by issuing a recall....updated 10/29/15

The driver's door ajar light on the dash instrument cluster and the interior lights stay illuminated even when the door is completely shut. The door needs to be slammed several times before the light extinguishes, but sometimes will not go out at all. This leaves driver with an insecure feeling the car door is not securely closed while driving. This problem seems to be widespread on this model vehicle from what I read on the internet.

Driver door agar light comes on and stays on. I have to repetitively slam my door fifteen to twenty times for light to go off. When this happens the inside dome light stays on and it is draining my battery. I have contacted Ford since the vehicle is out of warranty it is my responsibility. This is a common problem with Ford vehicles and I voiced my concern to them and told them they need to do a recall and fix this problem and it should be at Ford's expense not owners expense. Ford customer service said to save my receipt if there is an upcoming recall.

The car surged forward after the break pedal was depressed which resulted in a crash into a tree. Damage to the front end. The car was drivable to the repair shop. At least three other incidents where the car surged forward but did not result in a crash. Took the car to future Ford and they could not duplicate the problem so nothing was done. Latest event on 5/22/2015 where the car surged forward and crashed into a building. In both incidents, we were lucky in that nobody was injured. The surges last about 4 to 5 seconds.the air bags did not deploy. Nothing is done to stop the surge except push harder on the break pedal. Future Ford service manager stated nothing can be done without positive proof in the error codes.

While driving down a street, suddenly the "drivers door ajar" alarm and warning light came on on the dash, the door was secured shut, but interior lights came on as if door was open. Since the initial date of incident the vehicle now does this during operation, whether the vehicle is parked, or in motion. A call to the local Ford dealership service department it was indicated that this has been a complaint of hundreds if not thousands of late model Ford owners and that, still at this time, fordmoco has not issued a recall for the door latches, thus if not under their 3yr/36,000mile warranty the part would have to be replaced at the vehicle owners expense of around $400-$500 U.S. for the part and repair. I was directed to file a complaint via safercar.gov website, and to also explore many internet websites and forums related to this ongoing issue. Upon a brief internet search, I was easily able to find that indeed the Ford service adviser was correct in the amount of complaints by many late model vehicle owners concerning the door latch sensor failures, causing the alarm/warning light to activate while the vehicle is in motion, or parked, whether the vehicle was on or off.

A vehicle in front of me slowed down and when I went to take my foot of the gas my tennis shoe got caught on the plastic trim on the engine compartment next to the gas pedal.. I had to pull hard to get my foot off the gas. I brought the vehicle to the Ford dealer and was told that all the Edges had the trim and they did not seem concerned. It only happens when my leg was resting on the side of the engine compartment while holding down the gas pedal. It happened several times while driving on the Illinois freeway. The car in front of me slowed down and by the time I got my foot off the gas pedal I had to apply the brakes quickly and the vehicle behind me almost hit me. I think Ford should be required to modify the trim in that area.

Vehicle door is closed but warning reads door ajar. Doors will not lock because the door is ajar but it's not. Inside stayed on for about 2 min while driving. Sometimes I get I'm and there are no problems then the doors will unlock and the door ajar shift to park pops on. Or I could be driving with the door ajar warning on but doors are closed then the doors lock and warning goes away. I thought it was the sensor but the door closes but does not latch.

The driver door latch is getting replaced as it tells us that the door is open when it is not. I have been told by the dealership that they have seen this happen in a lot of Ford Edge's. it is costing me $350 and I would like my money back from Ford. I don't believe that a 2013 should be having those kind of issues and Ford should fix the issue.

The failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the driver side door latch was faulty and needed to be replaced. Drivers door latch faulty. Causes "door ajar" and "shift to park" warning lights even though door completely shut. Ignoring the warning light is dangerous. Under warranty Ford's procedure is still to only clean the contacts and not replace the unit. This fault occurred again after they cleaned.

My door sensor on my driver's side continues to alert me that it's open, when it isn't. this causes my dome light to stay on and all my doors not to lock. I have to slam my door hard multiple times to get it to go off, or just drive with it on.

The passenger side door ajar light stays on and the interior lights even when the door is shut. I have to slam the door hard 4-5 times to get it to go off. While driving down the road the light will come on and the alert to "shift to park". I took it to a Ford dealer who charged me $80 to say there was nothing wrong. I came home, knowing this wasn't right and found numerous complaints online about the same issue. Ford needs to place a recall on this.
