CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013 Edge has its fair share of problems, but chief among them is an annoying “door ajar” warning light that won’t shut off even when the door is most definitely closed. While the retina-burning, ever-present false reminder on your dashboard is bad, it points to a deeper problem that can drain the battery, leave the doors unlocked while in motion, or render the key fob useless.

This is definitely an annoying issue that keeps the seat from sliding back when I exit the car and causes you not to be able to start the vehicle remotely. Not to mention the warning light on the screen is probably running down the battery. I have to jiggle the gear shift for quite a bit to get it to light up in park sometimes. Not really worth fixing to me because it wouldn't increase the value of my car by the amount it costs to fix. It's irritating to spend a good deal of money on a "nice" car and have all the issues that these do though.

The light comes on for the rear door sensor but on the drivers door the bell won't ever stop and it keeps saying shift in park. So annoying - Almost every Edge has this problem, why aren't they being recalled

Right after we spent $600 CDN ($450 US) to fix the dreaded "Door Ajar" issue, the "Shift to Park" prompt comes on. I am hoping that this doesn't lead to additional issues like a dead battery. Since Ford has done quite the job of ignoring the previous issue (they even sent an email to say that someone would call and discuss the issue within 3 days...a month ago) we don't expect any resolution from them with this issue.

We certainly won't be buying another Ford product ever, even if half my neighbours work at the local plant where this vehicle was made.

The Shift to Park notification kept coming on, even when driving. I could not lock my car due to this, plus I had to listen to an annoying beep every time I slowed down. Not being able to lock my car means that I can't leave anything of value in my car!!

This was fixed under warranty. The entire shifter had to be replaced!!

This problem is known by Ford and they have issued a TBS but refuse to take responsibility for their defective manufacturing. Being the greedy money hungry big corporation they are when I called to complain I was given the shaft. It is wrong. After owning 3 Ford vehicles this will be the last! I have a rule that once a company screws me over I cut them loose. They, by lack of responsibility, have lost a customer.

This should have been covered under a recall. I have driven other vehicles for 250,000 miles and have NEVER

had to replace a gear shift. I understand the teeth in the gear was chipped or broken. This is a manufacturer's defect and should have been recalled. I'm ready to trade this vehicle in.

Edge Limited 2.0L Eco-Bust

  • Automatic transmission

This problem started just after my Edge went out of warranty, go figure. The shift to park, door ajar, and the fact that you can only lock the car when it is in park has become very annoying!!!! When I took the Edge to the dealership where it was purchased they wanted to replace the whole gear shift along with the door sensor that senses the door shut all very expensive. The money is an issue with me but I consider the doors not locking while the vehicle is in drive a danger. When stopped at a red light or in traffic with doors not locked is very dangerous this day and time, anyone could open a car door and hop right in the car with me.

With the car not sensing the door shut the interior and exterior lights will periodically come on and go out after several minutes. When the wind blows and shakes the car the alarm will go off because the sensor thinks someone is trying to get in the locked vehicle.

This is not only irritating but is dangerous, the door could pop open while driving down the road!!!! And last, I PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR MY 2013 FORD EDGE LIMITED EDITION AND IT IS INFERIOR TO MY 2008 FORD EDGE LIMITED EDITION I TRADED IN ON IT!!!!!!!! AND I THINK FORD SHOULD RECALL AND FIX THE PROBLEM!!!!! Seriously, we are a Ford family and have been for a long time and I thought FORD was better than this.

The 'shift to park' light on my 2013 Ford Edge comes on when the car comes to a complete stop such as at a stop sign. Not sure if this is connected to the 'door ajar' light problem I am currently having.

Shift to park light stays on although vehicle is in park. If I jam it hard, it will often go out, sometimes I have to put it drive and park again before the light goes off. Bye- took it to the local dealership who said they know about the problem but they could not do anything about it because they could not duplicate it. Really! Still driving it this happens almost every time I drive it. Getting tired of this, thinking about getting rid of this lemon.

This warning is a new one added to a list of things that continue to happen including the diver's rear door says that it is open and keeps the interior lights on. The outside lights will come on while sitting in my laneway causing people to knock on my door telling me my lights are on. Not the headlights, the lights under the rearview mirrors and licence plate, etc. So far, this has not caused me to not be able to start my car. Sometimes it will take up to 20 times to connect a Bluetooth device.

When shifting the vehicle into PARK, the indicator does not light up, and dashboard message reads "SHIFT INTO PARK'. My wife reports that this has happened numerous times lately and it is very annoying...I witnessed this myself the other day 4/28/2016.. Have seen on other complaint sites that others are having same problem..vehicle has 58K + miles..Have read in blogs that shift selector needs to be replaced.. I believe that this could be dangerous and Ford needs to REACT and fix the issue..

I loved my 2013 Edge until the past three months. All of a sudden when I put the car in park and turn off the car, often it will chime and say put the car in park. I can't get it to stop until I jiggle and bank the shifter. Now when I go to start the car I also get the "no key detected" message. This week my sync is not keeping my phonebook and will lose numbers randomly.

Edge Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 37,000 miles

Just had the brake booster replaced in April. Got lucky that there was a recall out for that issue but did not find out until we checked on the internet for recalls and sure enough there was one for the brake booster. A month later at approx. 37,000 miles the message "Shift in Park" started popping up when shutting off the vehicle. Have not seen any other complaints on the 2013 model Edge but did see the same complaint on a 2012 Edge so I'm guessing it's a known issue with Ford. Hoping they do a recall but unless they feel it's a dangerous defect will probably have to pay a dealer to diagnose and fix. I'm really wanting to like this Edge but if this thing continues to have issues I'm going to be pissed considering how much this sucker cost!
