We had this problem just after we bought our Edge (used). In order to replace the sensor, you have to replace the entire door latch. To do that, you have to take off the interior door panel, window, and many of the guts from inside the door. I ended up having a local guy do the work for me... Ford wanted $500. To add insult to injury, it just started doing it again not even two years later... and the rear driver side door has started as well.

It is truly ridiculous Ford is not standing by their product when there is obviously a flaw in the design, which is a SAFETY HAZARD. When this issue occurs, the doors cannot be locked. Is it going to take someone getting carjacked and killed or a child opening a rear door and falling out before Ford does something??

THEY ALERT TONES KEPT GOING OFF SAYING "PUT CAR IN PARK DRIVERS DOOR AJAR" AND ALL THE OVER HEAD LIGHTS WOULD STAY ON. HARD TO DRIVE VEHICLE AT NIGHT WITH INTERIOR LIGHTS ON AND DINGING NOISES GOING OFF.

MADE AN APPT WITH BILL WALSH FORD THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS FIXED AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM I WAS HAVING WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THE DEALERSHIP GAVE ME THE IMPRESSION THAT THE PART WAS REPLACED NOT JUST FIXED. I ASKED WHEN I CHECKED OUT THAT THERE WAS A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE AND WAS INQUIRING WHAT IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN? THE CLERK LOOKED IT UP AND TOLD ME THERE IS A 2 YEAR MANUFACTURER WARRANTY ON THIS PART. WAS TOLD IF I HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITHIN THAT TIME JUST CALL AND THEY WILL FIX IT.

Same problem reported numerous times by other Ford owners. Door ajar indicator sensor fails. Despite the drivers door being fully closed, in some cases slammed, the indicator pops up on screen. Dome lights stays on, and doors remain unlocked. In some cases battery drains.

The problem first occurred in early 2015. Dealer cleaned the sensor which I probably should have done myself. Now the problem is back.

Called Ford last year spoke to customer service filed a complaint. Again I file another complaint on 2/22/2016.

It's mind boggling that there's not a recall. And what really enrages me is how dishonest the dealers are. When I mentioned the problem to them last year they had the audacity to say that it had not been reported before. Really google Mr service manager. I told him not to insult me anymore. And if he really wasn't aware of this problem ... well you fill in that blank.

Anyways I'll order the part and replace it. I'm not given a dealer a penny for this. Hopefully Ford will wake up and do the right thing. In the interim I'll hold on to my receipt but not my breath.

I AM HAVING DIFFICULT WITH THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR MOST OF THE TIME WHEN I CLOSE THE DOOR THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT COMES UP. LIGHT INSIDE THE CAR STAYS ON AND WHEN I HAVE TO DRIVE (CAUSE I HAVE NO CHOICE) THE PARKING LIGHTS COMES UP TOO ITS VERY ANNOYING AND DANGEROUS. THE DOORS WONT LOCK AT ALL.

2 THE FALSE DOOR AJAR SIGNAL PREVENTS THE DRIVER FROM RECOGNIZING A REAL DOOR AJAR SITUATION VERY DANGEROUS IF YOU HAVE LITTLE KIDS ON YOUR CAR.

3 THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK WHICH IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE.

4 THE DOOR LIGHTS STAYS ON AND CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN SITTING IN A PUBLIC AREA AT NIGHT.

I've seen recalls on other Ford models in 2015 with same issue with door latch. Mine randomly started and states shift to park and shows door open symbol but door is def shut. Lights stay on and very frustrating at night. I've tried lightly shutting, medium and a pretty good force doesn't matter. Accidentally left key in car with doors locked but didn't panic BC shouldn't be able to get locked out... Wrong couldn't get in with code nor sliding my finger. The key was in direct eye contact too. Nothing would work until I decided lets try putting lots of pressure while I punch in code and it worked... Ridiculous. I just pd my 1st car payment too so makes more frustrating. Oh and even worse booster on brakes went out couple weeks ago.

My 2012 Ford Edge, Driver Door Ajar, indicator light will not go out after, many times, of shutting, slamming, spraying WD40, etc. I still have the extended warranty. I hate to take the Edge in for the Service Dept. to charge me, then say. "Well we can't find anything." I have to make sure, the lights go out, before going in the house, work. etc. This is really being a pain in my ass. Is Ford Motor Company aware, of this problem. There has been times, I have to stop the vehicle, and shut the door many times, before the lights and Ajar indicator goes out.

Ok problem came back and our used car dealer took it to Ford Dealer again and got them to replace entire door latch assembly which required reprogramming the computer. Worked good for several months this time... but it is back!! I am thinking of getting rid of this car, but we really like it and I just had a hitch put on it. I am a life long Ford guy but this is really testing my loyalty. There is no way they shouldn't be required to fix this. Like the other guy said, it is a safety issue when the dome lights come on at night. Great car but this is way frustrating.

I bought my 2012 Ford Edge used June 2014. In September 2014, I had the "driver door ajar" warning issue even when the door is clearly closed. At that time, my car was still covered under manufacturer's warranty so I took it to the dealership and it was fixed for free. It was obviously a nuisance but I was fine with it since it was fixed for free, and I thought it was a one-time occurrence.

It is March 2015. The issue began happening again at the end of February and I YouTubed ways to fix this on my own since it is out of warranty now. One video suggested getting a can of air duster and clearing the debris and then spraying a lubricant like WD-40 on the signal piece in the latch. I did this and it worked for a few days. The issue is back and I finally made an appointment to take it back to the dealership. They're not sure if there is a limited part warranty even though it has been less than a year since the same exact issue happened. How can that be??!

This is beyond frustrating. I've been late to a few events due to trying to get the signal to read and actually be able to arm my car. I've slammed the car door 15+ times the last few days before it would actually arm. It won't even arm today. My arm is in pain from slamming the door and I'm tempted to raise a medical suit with Ford. I've decided to climb in and out of my car through the passenger's side, but that is not a long term fix! I just don't want to deal with this stupid door issue anymore!!

After reading forums about this issue and Ford not issuing a recall, what is a customer with this car supposed to do?? There is no end in sight!!! This is going to continue to happen every 6 months? 18 months? This isn't even a servicing/maintenance issue, it's something that should not be an issue to begin with. In addition to it being a nuisance, it is also a safety issue. The doors do not lock if you decide to drive with the warning sign on. If you decide to lock your car with the car not reading that the door is closed, the interior lights remain on, draining your battery.

This makes me hate this car. I was so excited to have it and loved everything about it, but this is not a simple issue that can be ignored. I am beyond pissed that customers have to pay out of pocket for a problem of Ford's. I have warned all friends against purchasing this car and will suggest they not buy Ford if this is the way they treat their customers. I will continue to write in forums warning people against buying from Ford until this issue is fixed. I will also sell this car back and get something more reliable. And even after I sell back, I will continue to write in forums so that people know not to fall into this trap. Will also try to get the local news station to probe for answers. This is not acceptable and extremely upsetting.

The dashboard alert and the bells came on the car every time I turned the car on. I took it to the local Ford garage and they did not tell me that there have been at least two bulletins on this same problem. They said my car is out of warranty for that type of problem and charged me $345.

I am angry that I had to pay for a problem that is an on-going Ford Edge problem. I feel that this should have been fixed at no charge to me.

How unsafe and annoying this damn problem is. Why has Ford not recalled this issue as it is happening to a lot of other owners. I am truly disappointed in this vehicle. I would rather drive my 2003 then deal with this door issue. you can't lock the doors, it dings at you every time your foot comes off the brake. 98% of the time the dame driver door light is one telling you it is open when it is not.

I am almost positive the dealership sold me this vehicle knowing about this issue without resolving the problem first. I will never purchase from them again. The online video to fix is extensive and doesn't always work. Truly a pain in the ass. I feel sorry for anyone who has one of these vehicles.

The sensor on my car says the "drivers door is ajar" Then its alarms, warning to shift to park. I have had to SLAM the door multiple times, each time this occurs, for it to finally turn off. Sometimes the alarm does not kick in until I am already well on my way. At night this could be dangerous as the interior lights come on. That combined with the alarm is quite distracting. Also, the doors will not lock when it reads the door as open. I have a young child and I see this as a safety risk.

I am taking it in next week as it is still under warranty but I am very disappointed to read all the complaints on this and no recall. Ford really needs to deal with this issue!
