CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar” warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

The warning indicator toggles between "door ajar" and "shift into park" all throughout driving. I don't understand what is causing the "shift into park" all the time, unless the door being ajar is causing it to want you to put the car into park. Annoying at best.

OK, when you turn the engine off, intermittently I get a "shift into park" message. If I toggle the gear shift button, usually it will go away. Sometimes I have to restart the engine, put it into park again, and turn the engine off. If you leave it with the "shift into park" message for any length of time (like overnight like my wife did) it will kill the battery because the vehicle really doesn't shut down and is still using juice. This will cause other issues, including killing your GPS if you have one!! FYI, if this happens, recharge the battery, and then disconnect it for a few minutes to let electronics reset, then reconnect the battery. The GPS system should come back to life once it can access satellites and synchronize to your location. You don't need to take it in for repairs to get the GPS working again!! I hope this helps because I think this is a fairly huge problem, and there should probably be recall of some sort. It looks like the solution is to replace the gear shift at around $400-500. If anyone has another fix/repair that they know about, feel free to let us know. Good luck dealing with a repair shop.
