CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar” warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

Driving 43mph, my vehicle stalled while driving. The AWD off and wrench icon indicators appeared on the dashboard. I had to swerve onto the median to avoid being rear-ended. This happened again on June 16, 17, 24 & 25. This has happened at varying speeds, faster and slower than the first incident. It ended up being the throttle body, and conveniently just 4000 miles past the warranty expiration. I was told by two separate mechanics that this is something they've seen many times, and if it were one of two other Ford models, it would be covered under the extended warranty plan by Ford. It is the same part in all vehicles, but only covered in certain models" this faulty part is putting people's lives at risk, or at minimum putting them in unnecessary danger of an accident and resulting financial damages that follow. If it's a known issue with the part, why is this allowed to continue? and why are only certain models covered" $600 later and I don't trust that my problem is solved.

My wife was driving her 2011 Ford Edge on the highway at 60 mph with me and another passenger when all of a sudden the car began to decelerate very quickly. My wife shouted that the vehicle would not respond when she applied the accelerator pedal. We were in full traffic as cars sped beside us and came up quickly behind us slamming on their brakes to avoid hitting us. I turned on the hazard lights and told her to try to coast over to the shoulder because the vehicle would still not respond. She had to cut off several other vehicles to make it over to the shoulder but luckily no accident occurred. When we stopped, she again tried to apply the accelerator but still no response. She put the car in park and turned off the vehicle. She waited a few seconds and started the car and put it back in drive. The car finally responded and we were able to make it home without further incident. This was a very, very scary and dangerous situation. This car is well maintained and only had 51,000 miles. When this was happening, it reminded me of the Toyota incidents but instead of accelerating uncontrollably on the highway, we decelerated uncontrollably. I hope Ford looks into this situation more closely.

During driving, the engine stopped and car would not accelerate, there was a complete loss of power. There was no warning, and the "yellow wrench" light came on, and car would not go. This was in the middle of the road and could not get off of the road. It happened so quickly, there was no time to react to try to pull over. Lost steering and couldn't move anywhere. Waited for 1 min or so, and restarted car.

April 3- fifteen mins from home (returning from a vacation to gatlinburg, tn), "black screen of death" occurred. Took immediately to dealership. Waited 40 mins while diagnostic run and told to bring back Monday, April 7, as apim was discovered to be bad. Would be replaced Monday. April 7- returned to dealership for apim to be replaced and told radio was going to be checked; not apim replaced. Argued with staff there, as service manager had already run diagnostic to determine apim needed. Had to wait another three days for apim to come in to dealership. Returned April 10 for apim replacement. May 3- leaving for a 12 hour round trip to athens, ga to bring son home from college..."black screen of death" occurred 6X before getting an hour from home. Occurred 4-5X more on way back from athens, ga. This happened on a Saturday so had to call dealership Monday. Told to bring in May 8. May 8- told issue could not be duplicated. Discovered through discussion w/ service personnel that my phone had never been connected w/ sync when these problems have occurred; techs had been diagnosing in a different direction. Appears that radio is true issue. Personnel said they would check w/ service manager about getting radio replaced. May 12- called and told that Ford has said that until issue can be duplicated, nothing will be done to fix my car. If I leave car for undetermined time frame, allow to be driven long distances (adding miles to car), maybe problem can be duplicated. No rental allowed bc issue not covered under warranty. This is my only vehicle. Bought $40,000 car for navigation system and cannot use properly bc it keeps going out on long trips.

Vehicle inadvertently goes into limp mode for no apparent reason. All service has been performed as recommended. It has happened on the interstate, downtown traffic and pulling into streets with on coming traffic. Extremely dangerous in heavy traffic situations. I have al most been hit several times. It will go for several hundred miles with no problem, then it will begin stalling and do it multiple times within 1/4 mile of each other.

Driving on interstate highway at a speed of 55+ miles per hour and suddenly the engine just stalled and there is no power. There is (wrench) warning indicator light and a message see manual was able to steer off to the side of the road. Once the engines is turned off and wait a minute or two you can restart and everything seems ok. It will go days before it happens again. Took the car to local Ford dealer and they claim they cannot reproduce problem, so will not fix what they cannot reproduce.

Our 2011 AWD Ford Edge is having an issue that it randomly loses acceleration and a wrench warning will show up as well as turn on AWD at the same time RPM gauge will fluctuate. The car will go limp and hesitate until we stop to put in park and restart, then it will drive until the next time it occurs.

Re: 2011 Ford Edge limited: On way to dealer for requested service/repair re: Sudden and unexpected engine loss of power (stall - 3 episodes within 2 weeks) while underway the vehicle stalled 3 additional times. At time of stall (loss of engine power) the engine remained running; check engine light was on; "wrench" showed on dash instruments; all electrical power remained on and operating. Necessary to put hazard lights on, glide to stop off road, place transmission lever in neutral then in park and turn engine off. On restart, check engine light was on. I called advantage Ford dealership from road; they said ok to proceed to dealership. These incidents occurred in heavy traffic on us-1. no warning from car re: Engine rumbling or other before stall. Felt in danger but able to navigate safely. Internet search prior to dealer visit indicated "throttle body" problem with Ford escape primarily. Only 1-3 complaints re: Ford Edge.

Issue 1 of 2: on 3 separate occasions the engine has suddenly lost power, lost speed and the engine shook and ran extremely rough. There was a message with a wrench on the screen that said see owners manual, but no useful information was given. The warning message later went away with no evidence of a problem. 2 of the incidents occurred at highway speed and nearly cause severe multi-car accidents. Another incident was at a lower speed of about 45 mph and did not occur on a major highway. Issue 2 of 2: as a separate issue, there have been 2 occurrences of a very hash clunk from the transmission that felt as if the vehicle hit something. More information: The vehicle was purchased used at carmax with 213000 miles on it, purchase date: 01/28/2014.

My Edge kept shutting down unexpectedly on different occasions but would never set of a code just tell me the AWD is shutting down and would have no gas power to get off the road just hopefully I had enough speed going to coast of to the side of the road. And after shutting the car off then turn the car back on it would start and go again took it to the Ford dealers to put it on their diagnostic computer and did not show up showing an unexpectedly shut down.my Edge had probably done this a dozen times in the last 6months and yesterday it did it 4 times right in a row but this time it set of the engine light so I could read the code it produced which read throttle actuator locking up so I am going to replace the throttle body and see if this cures my problem.

Driving down the road, the vehicle suddenly lost power and the gas pedal became unresponsive. "see manual" warning light with a wrench icon came on. Pulled car over, and restarted the vehicle at which time the car drove normally. Took it to local dealership, where they were unable to pull the error code. Continued driving vehicle and error occurred intermittently. Today, occurred twice on my drive in to work (5 miles), the second time the "check engine" light came on. Took vehicle to autozone, they pulled a P2111 code. Having throttle body serviced tomorrow at local repair shop. The last time this happened today was in an intersection - very nearly caused an accident. This throttle body failure seems to be a common issue. I find it very curious that there has not been a recall yet as this is clearly a widespread issue and it is clearly a safety issue.

While driving the all wheel drive shuts down and you have no power. I shut the engine off and re-start. It worked for about 100 yards and did it again. It did this 7 times in less than 10 miles. It did not do it again for about 10 days. Then it did it 5 times in less than 2 miles. It happens at various speeds. Both in manual and automatic. This past weekend it happened another 3 times while out of town on a MINIvacation.

While making a turn the vehicle suddenly stalled out without warning, luckily the car coming towards me slowed in time and I was able to coast to the middle lane. Check engine light appeared and also a wrench symbol. After a few minutes I restarted the car and it did turn on, I was driving without issues, when going 45 mph the vehicle shook and again stalled out. Having my 1 year old son in the car was very frightening, I was terrified I would be hit by another vehicle as the Edge suddenly turns off with no warning. Being we live in a somewhat rural area and having my son, I was determined to make it home, which thank goodness I did safely, unfortunately after stalling out 2-3 more times. My husband took the Edge to the dealership today which they claim it is the throttle body, and since we do not have the extended warranty is $800. After seeing these other posts it seems that there should be a Ford recall. Thankfully no one was hurt, but it can lead to a fatality if the Edge stalls on the freeway or busy road, its very scary. I purchased a new car to feel safe and to have my son safe, I feel far from and I want nothing but to get rid of this vehicle. Something needs to be done. VIN unavailable as my car is still at the dealership.

While driving at approx 35 mph the Edge went into a basic "limp" mode, preventing any acceleration. I pulled over and shut it down, it flashed a yellow wrench and said AWD off, I restarted it and the next day it happened around 55 mph, shut it down again and restarted it. The very next day it happened a total of 5 times, at various speeds, when will something be done about this" after someone gets killed" truck will be sitting in my garage and I guess we will share our other car, no way in hell am I letting my wife drive this vehicle, it will end up being a "death trap"

Driving down the street and vehicle acts like it is running out of gas or vapor locking. Accelerator all the way down and vehicle slowing down to a stop. Wrench light comes on vehicle and take to Ford dealership for repair. I feel like this should be covered under warranty due to the fact that several other throttles have reported going out on this year model.
