CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar†warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

This is the same water pump issue that required a used engine replacement in July of 2020. This is currently at the dealership due to the complexity (per several mechanics) of the repair. There is fluid leaking and a grinding noise (intermittently) coming from the engine which are both symptoms of water pump failure. The replacement of the water pump has been estimated around $3000 (labor is $200/hour).
The engine blown and the high labor cost of replacing a water pump was caused by the ingenious design of the Duratec 3.5L V6 engine to house the water pump. The issue has caused numerous class action lawsuits which have been essentially swept under the proverbial rug.
