The contact owns a 2009 Ford Edge. The contact stated that there was a strong fuel odor coming from the vehicle. Additionally, the contact noticed that fuel was leaking from the vehicle onto the ground. The contact who is as an independent mechanic, diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel tank was leaking at the spot welds located on the upper part of the tank and at the mounting points on the fuel tank. The contact stated that the fuel tank was previously replaced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V712000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under the recall a second time, and that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 157,000.
