CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.
Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.
Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

Can't believe that since we have had this Edge the problems that we have had with it! And was I surprised to see that everything that we have experienced with this car is listed all over the your web site - transmission slipping, or clunking when you take off, turn sharply - And to think it was insinuated it was because of how I drove? Ha, is that a laugh. Also in 2013, the sensor - of some kind - went bad and that took $1800 to fix. This month I had to take it in because between 40-50 MPH, it is chugging, chugging; so I try to stay above or below that speed. Just a little difficult!! Now this repair is $1000!!!! Something about the bands - not the engine per se - but part of the car that is attached to the engine.
And we needed a car back in 2010, we specifically looked at Fords because they did not take the government's bail out money. But based on this website, it appears that Ford could care less about its' customers!
