CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.
Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.
Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

I was coming up over a hill and was telling my 6 year old daughter to stop yelling when I slammed into a vehicle stopped to make a left turn at approximately 44mph. My vehicle was completely totaled. I had a black bruise across my chest from the seatbelt, as well as my 6 year old, and both of my knees were completely black and blue from my body bouncing visciously up into the steering wheel while the seatbelt attempted to keep me in the seat. No airbags deployed at all. I am horrified and shocked because what if the impact caused my vehice to tip or roll??? My child and i would have LOST OUR LIVES. It has been two weeks and my daughter is still firmly refusing to get into any car with anyone because of how terrified she is. The vehicle repair costs exceeded the value of it and also the frame was damaged beyond repair. The officers that arrived on scene were just as shocked and horrified as I was that no airbags deployed. My vehicle was UNDRIVABLE and had to be towed off the scene. This was actually the first accident that I have ever been in (I am 26) and what i got from it is that i will never purchase another Ford vehicle again as long as I live. (Which is a long time given I have airbags in my next vehicle)
I was sick to my stomach when I read that the same thing has happened to other people in the same vehicle. Why isn't anyone trying to fix this?? Is Ford waiting for a lawsuit from someone dying due to no airbag deploying?!? I thought the edge was a very safe vehicle and really loved it until now. For the cost of a Ford Edge in the first place, the air bags should be covered in silk with a pillowtop in my opinion, but coukd they at least work? $20,000 for a vehicle shoukd come with an airbag or two dont you think??
