CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

Cam phasers a known problem to Ford being ignored, I guess till enough people complain. This is very common problem and very expensive to fix. Just wondering if anybody else has had this problem. $2600 out of pocket.

Actually the transmission has been a bit dodgey from the start. It recently has added up shift and downshifting when its warm. The transmission violently engaging, feels like I am being rear ended

Transmission Problem! 2008 Ford Edge Danger! Bought a year ago used and was not showing any issues. Suddenly May 1, 2013, Gears slipped while driving and went into a low gear, warning lights, wrench, airbag, came on dash, car would not hardly move, able to break and when trying to put into park, grinding gears, almost got rear-ended, crunching loud noise putting into drive, could hardly move forward to pull off road into a parking lot. Turned car off/on several times trying to reset or see if transmission would allow gears to shift correctly, no luck. After 2 hours in the rain, called tow truck, car now at transmission repair shop. I'm was lucky that the light had turned red and I was able to get off the state highway without being killed.

I've had my 2008 Ford Edge for over 5 years now, but I've been having some hesitation or what feels like slipping going on with my transmission for the past 3 years. I mentioned it to the dealership on multiple occasions while it's been there for inspections, but they tell me that there are no significant issues with it. I disagree, and I'm beginning to worry that there are bigger problems lurking than I want to realize.

I do not mistreat my Edge, nor do I tow or pull anything with it, so there is no reason that the transmission should be malfunctioning. I don't even live in an area with lots of hills for pity sake! It's not like it's over-worked!

problem #2

Edge Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 17,398 miles

this is definitely a inconvenience as you do not know if you are doing more harm as no one till today Sep.2/10 could find the problem. I think they thought I was crazy and had to leave the car overnight so did without it for one whole day and 1//2 to get to the problem. They found a sensor harness shorted. If you have this problem take it with this information and it is under warranty.

I love our car even with the problems and happy it is solved. I sometimes wonder about these sensors???

My car surges has grinding noises -feels like its going to turn off. Called Galpin Service Dept. and was dismissed. Finally at 6000 miles and reading online about how COMMON this problem is I wrote to Ford and complained requesting help and

full research on the vehicle. If there are problems with the vehicle, it should be immediately recalled. This is SERIOUS!!!!
