CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.
Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.
Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

This Edge is US made and I bought it used in 2011 with 50,000 kilometres. At around 170,000 kilometers, there was a slight vibration between 20 and 30 miles per hour on the third gear. It became more evident which cause me concern, initially, about the transmission. I had it checked but expert saw nothing wrong with the transmission.
Also on a few occasion moving from a traffic light, the suv would not enter into the second gear and stayed into the first gear. I had to stop, shut the engine, and after restarting it which caused a reset of the computer, the suv was functioning normally again. Another time, while driving around 30 miles per hour, the engine had mishap, that I thought was water in the gas tank, but it happened even with a full tank.
Last night, while warming up the engine, a CD came out of the of its slot. I thought I accidentally touched the radio then a second CD came out. So when I think of all these different mishaps, I am starting to think that this may be cause by the Edge computer not functioning properly and causing different problems on different emplacement ( engine, transmission gear, radio). Some mechanic suggested maybe the transmission, torque, engine problems - but the CD coming out ???? What comes to my mind is computer malfunction because after restarting the engine, the computer reset solved the malfunction. Still looking for the solution!
