CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.
Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.
Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

my husband and I were going to his dad's for christmas this past year, and during our 3 1/2 hour drive we decided to use the cruise control. As fun as it is sounds to experience the effects of a "run-away train" - it's a bit disconcerting when your vehicle decides to take off like a bat out of hell when you are pushing the "Set -" button to reduce the speed!!!! As crazy as this sounds... when the speed control is set, and you want to coast down a mph or two, all you're supposed to have to do is hit the set - button and it should reduce your speed accordingly. Well, not my 2008 Ford Edge!! Fasten your seat belts and hold on to you hats!!!! Cause you'll get the ride of your life! I would say that 8 out of 10 times it works @ss backwards like this, and only occasionally functions as it was meant to. What ever ya do... Never hold down the "Set -" button on MY car cause it will take you for the ride of your life! I got from 60 to 90mph in less than 3 seconds one day trying to figure out how to get it to work properly. Needless to say.... we tend not to use this function anymore. This was not even the first time this has happened.... I've been trying to figure it out for Years... I even mentioned it to the dealership where I have it inspected every year, and they could not find anything wrong with it they told me. Guess it will just be one of those quirky things that we avoid like the plague.
