CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.
Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.
Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

Discovered this problem is well documented on the web. Loss of power, vehicle begins to shudder, check engine light comes on. Was after work on very cold day so I thought I could make the last 15 miles home. Died out at busy intersection and vehicle started smoking from engine. Apparently if plugs aren't changed regularly rear 3 ignition coils overheat from lack of ventilation (poor design) and melt also burning up the onboard computer (POC). I have seen estimates of $800 to $1200 to replace coils and plugs and another $900 to $1200 for POC, which has to be reset by dealer. Very bad.
Shelled out 600 to turbine and output sensor in May 2016. Then coming home on the highway tonight the car went into safely mode causing the car to stop on a dime. Lose the speed gauge and car beginning to stall. People behind us had to swerve to miss us. My kids were also in the car when this all happened. This is the second time that this has happened and this time someone could have really gotten hurt. Ford needs to make this right and recall these parts before some is hurt or even killed.
I own a 2007 Ford Edge 2007 Edge SEL FWD purchased on 02/21/2008 new. Having problems with the Transmission it seems to shudder when traveling speeds of 3-55.It is apparent when your applying the gas you must release the gas petal or the transmission will get stuck and will not allow you to move out of a speed or downshift.
I bought this Edge used. I had it for two weeks and it started to make a shudder. Took to Ford it cost me $135.00 to get checked. I was told torque converter was bad (the guy told me that they knew about this problem back in 07) I don't have the cash to get this fixed.
Update from Aug 9, 2016: according to the ford tech says its the torque converter or the oss sensor no matter how you look at it ford knew this cuz its also in the flex an the focus cost $1.500 plus reprograming fee 250.00 to 450.00

This always occurs when turning left from a dead stop, while pulling away. The car shudders and engine detunes for a few seconds. The "anti skid light" comes on just long enough to know what it is then goes off. This can be very serious problem since we live off of a busy state highway, and we need to get out there and get going or risk being rear ended.
I purchased my Ford Edge SEL in July of 07' and overall have been pleased with it; however, we started having shuddering problems while driving in 2011 at the 70,000 mile mark. I took it to a reputable Transmission shop locally and he ran a test. He hooked up the computer and (we) took it for test drive. After warning me of all the bad transmission shops in town and about 12 miles of inner city and open road driving, he looked at me and said "its not your transmission!". I'm no mechanic but there is still a problem and I would sure love to know what it is.
The transmission shudder is an intermittent problem. It can occur as I slow to make a 90 degree turn and has also occurred as the transmission shifts to a higher gear at 40 to 50 mph. Has been going on for almost 3 years. used be every 2 months or so. Now seem every 2 week or more frequently.

I have taken the Edge to 2 dealership and the most famous words I hear is TEST DROVE, NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE. This is after having my Edge for more than 8 hours
