CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

When first bought my edge (I call it a piece of Jeter) so proud in very good condition and I love it with in a month transmission started acting up kept taking it back to dealer for few months they acted like they didn’t want to be bothered until the transmission completely went. I was covered under warranty that we purchased separately when we bought the EDGE, so transmission #1 is so bad had to have it replaced,

Now transmission #2 is doing same so I’m sure I’ll have to have repaired or replaced and it’s only been about 4 years. And of course it’s paid n full and extended warranty has just shortly past So that means we’re working on transmission # 3.

And I’m retired due to major medical reasons, and that vehicle is treated like my baby I’ve taken a few long trips other than that most the time it’s in the garage all week I use it for doctors appointments and quick trips to the store and I’m not a person who loans my car out nobody else is allowed to drive my car but me or my husband and we are very easy on vehicles it’s an 07 with 120K miles that is very good we take very good care of our cars so I feel Ford should recall the 07 Ford edge due to transmission issues cause any vehicle has the same problem at least three times and that’s a major problem very expensive problem they should be responsible. Derek Jeter should be ashamed of himself to do the advertising for the Ford edge because that 07 is a definite recall product . Thank you!

Update from Oct 26, 2018: Third time slipping transmission also ended up not moving had to have it towed back to transmission shop had more work done on it so sick of it .Plus recieved many letters about air bag recall including one from NYS DEPT DMV and they contacted all Ford dealers within a 50 mile radius for a car till air bags parts come in none want to be bothered but yet its life threatening to drive this car, its cost me so much to just have this vehicle cause if Darik Jeter and I'm a in love with the edge but some one has to be responsible for this

My car transmission was fixed October 2017, supposedly a new one was put in but I think not because my car is still doing the jerking and stuff. Today my car did not want to go forward. I have emailed Precision Ford in Lillington to find out if there is a warranty on the Transmission, because I cannot afford another $1799.75. My parents had to assist in paying for the transmission.

Scary. I keep thinking that one day I'll be turning left through oncoming traffic into my home neighborhood and it's going to give out and a car will hit me. I've been through hell and back with this car (a few non-lethal fender benders) and I love everything about it so I want to keep it going, especially since it's all paid off. However, replacing the transmission is going to be more than the damned car is worth anymore, so I'm looking into DIY fixes - not intimidated by the car stuff, but for anyone else reading this, it's very important to get legit directions and throw extreme caution to the wind.

Goes in and out... no serious fault yet. One thing I noticed, though, was that after replacing the oil it stopped completely having the problem for 2 weeks straight. Odd..

Edge SEL AWD 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

Vehicle is not driven hard. No towing, almost no stop-and-go traffic. ATF has been changed every 50k or so (well within the 150k recommended service interval, much closer to the 30k severe use interval), using the recommended ATF type. Trans is starting to slip and have hard shifting. No reason for this, other than poor quality.
