CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

I've just purchased a used 07 edge in perfect condition, and low miles. Everything seems to be excellent with the vehicle except for an unsubscribed smell in the vehicle, not sure if it's exhaust, or something else. I usually smell it after driving at a higher rate of speed, 55-65 mph, for 30/or more minutes. When we just drive around town, I don't smell it. I saw that a couple other people had this issue and was wondering if they had found a fix for it, or not.

On 2/27/2010 I bought a used 2007 Ford Edge and right off the rip I noticed an exhaust smell inside the car when I came to a stop. The smell is stronger when I come to a stop after driving at a higher rate of speed, around 65 to 70 mph. for 10 to 15 miles. Then when I start up again it goes away. I don't notice it driving around town at lower speeds. I took it back to the dealer I purchased it from and they said they could not find any thing wrong with it.

Has anyone besides me had this type of trouble and if you have what was the problem?

Right from the start after purchasing this vehicle we noticed a "smell" coming inside after driving. It is more predominant when driving at higher speeds and longer periods of time. When coming to a stop, or even in idle, inside the car a "sulfurous odor" is noticeable (An excellent example is when exiting the 401 and coming to a stop light). After sitting in idle for 10-15 seconds, the "smell" is quite strong, sometimes to the point we put the windows down to let in fresh air. We've had it to the dealership several times and they haven't found the problem with it yet. What they have told us many of times that it is common to smell exhaust inside your vehicle from a vehicle that is in front of you. I've told them that may be true, but is not the case in this situation. My wife and I have become accustomed to this smell and notice it every time we drive the vehicle. Even when only driving a short distance at lower speed. We are quite frustrated and if the problem cannot be solved we will be trading this vehicle in for something else.
