CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

Reading in Google Ford Edge PCM Failure. Seems Ford knows of this issue without a recall. We were driving 300 miles for Christmas when the tool light came and seemed to lose power, the engine light started blinking and then turned to steady on. Taking in to car mechanic they found the following codes P0300, P0305, P0306, P0356. The mechanic then proceed to to change the spark plugs, Int manifold set, and Ignition coil # 5 and 6. After changing these out they run the car and still was misfiring. Diagnose electrical system shorted out #6 coil and traced back to bad driver in PCM from shorted out coil.

After all these change for $1085.86 I still only have 5 cylinders working and I need to replaced PCM for over $1000. Luckily the we were not Found On Road Dead, reason being the coil in oil and gasoline short out and then the PCM ground was taken out, also. Lucky for us there was no fire.
