CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

Edge SEL 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Throttle body has sticky spots at certain rpms and the trans doesn't sense where to shift causing shuddering. Very annoying and most likely very dangerous.................. This car changed me from a die hard Ford fan to a Ford hater!

Edge SEL 3.5lV6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,000 miles

Im getting up in age and thought I would buy a new reliable vehicle, so I would have no problems. Always have been a ford guy. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BUILT FORD TOUGH? This vehicle is 6 years old, just 12,000 miles, come on ford you should stand behind this for me. What if I never bought extended warranty from an outside company I could not afford over 1900 bucks for repairs. And now i have to pay out of my pocket for a rental car to get back and forth to work, 35 bucks a day. not sure about keeping this edge after repairs are done, may be the last unreliable ford I buy. Ita a damn shame pay 30 grand for a vehicle and I have hade 200 dollar cars that run longer

Edge SEL 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,545 miles

My car kept skipping or jerking almost like the transmission was having issues. Not all the time, but when on a 3 hour trip it might jerk 8 -10 times. In town it might only jerk 2x's. I took it to the Ford dealership twice and both times they said they didn't feel it. I even told them what speed it happened at. Finally after 5 days in the shop they discovered it needed a new battery and that it was misfiring on cylinders 1,3,and 5. The extended warranty I bought covered the new coil packs, but not the 6 new spark plugs which cost me about $100 with parts & labor. However, the skipping does seem to be resolved.
