CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.
Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.
Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.
All of a sudden I started hearing this rubbing noise on the rear right passenger side, thinking it was my tires, until my son in law informs me the rotors are going. bad every time I press my brakes there's this loud sound. whyyyy?
I took this Edge to Ford dealership and told me my brakes were grinding. After a short test drive, I was told the rear brakes needed replacing. After $340.00 and one week, the grinding returned. I took the Edge to an independent mechanic who took it on a much longer test drive and then was told it was front brakes. After $360, the grinding was back in a week's time.
My husband was incredulous that the back brakes needed replacement at ALL! All told, I spent $700 and my brakes still grind and squeal loudly when braking.
We were told that the rotors for the edge go bad about the 30,000 miles. Ford will not own up to this issue. The rotor were defective from the beginning. The Service Centers at the Dealerships see the edges come all the time for this issue. Ford should reimburse all who put out the money to had this fixed.
My car has had a slew of problems since I purchased it brand new. The roof rattles constantly, its been in 5 times and never fixed, the rotors were bad, the shocks have been replaced once ,now going in again and the wheel bearings were bad last year. I am worried that once my car is no longer under warranty that I won't be able to afford it with the repairs. I feel that I have a lemon. Plus it is incredibly inconvenient to take it in every couple of months for repairs, my gosh it's a pretty new car. My last 13 year old car didn't have this many problems in 7 years as this one.
