CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

I just had the brakes replaced on my 2007 Ford Edge. A few days after the brakes were really hard to push - very spongy and did not have brakes at all when the car went below 5 mph. The brake pedal went right to the floor. I also heard a high pitched noise coming from the brake pedal (or at least that is where it sounded like it was coming from). I brought this into my mechanic thinking it was something with the ABS brakes. He said it was the brake booster.

Hey I'm Terry, I had the most frightening experience of my life. My 2007 Ford edge suddenly lost power while I was driving two different times. After about 30 minutes it started back up so I drove it back home. The next day I got in and the same thing happened again, about five minutes from my home driving on the highway with my grandson. Problem put my life and my grandson's life in danger. Had get it towed to the ford dealership. Had to pay or this problem out of pocket.

I just changed the front brake pads. I test drove the vehicle and parked it for the night. The next morning I damn near slammed into the back of a car at my first stop light. I heard a hissing noise from the area behind the brake pedal.

I looked up the potential problem and read about a known deficiency called the brake booster. I would like to thank Ford for potentially killing me or someone else. I would also like to thank them for allowing me to hone my mechanical skills.

Going to work one morning and slowing down to stop at a traffic light but my brakes depressed and won't stop then came back after a few seconds. I was so scared that I thought would run into cars. Second time it happened was same thing but this time I was slowing down behind a car in front of me and it failed again but came back after few seconds and same night heading home, I tried slowing down to turn to my driveway and it failed again but came back few seconds. So scary I wanna get this fixed ASAP. I will be calling Ford tomorrow to complain about this.

Edge SEL 3..5 V6

I bought this 2007 Ford Edge in September 2015 with 77k miles on it. I have had soo many problems with it.

This Found on Road Dead vehicle sat from the day I bought it until October 17, 2016 when I had to start using it for work daily. Now, I'm putting up to 100 miles a day on this Fkd up vehicle. My 2000 Chevy 4x4 Blazer had 157k miles on it and the entire braking system went. I blew out all the brake lines and master cylinder. Hell, this vehicle was 17 years old and the entire braking system went. (To be expected with 157k miles) On Aug. 22,2016 I was driving to work when I was coming up to a very very busy intersection here in Illinois, when I went to press the brake pedal and couldn't. It was soo hard as if the vehicle was off. I was like OMG, I'm getting into an accident due to brake failure. I was approaching the intersection when I kept trying to get the pedal to loosen up so I can stop. Finally, it loosened up and I stopped. I immediately called Max Care to report this and Merlins in Lockport, and asked if my Brake Booster and Master Cylinder is going out. They said YES!! Get it here immediately. We knew it wasn't the brakes or rotors those are new. I had those put on when I bought the vehicle in Sept. 2015, Merlins did the work. So, I got the vehicle to Merlins and Yes the Brake Booster and Master Cylinder went out. Now, this Found on Road Dead vehicle is going to be found on the road dead, now the brakes are still not right. The pedal now makes noise and it seems to want to surge now, since the repairs have been done

The brake booster failed during a routine brake pad change. To repair, the air filter, air intake, battery, battery tray, and master cylinder must be removed. It helps to also remove the auto throttle body. The brake booster is still difficult to remove. Did the work myself which is why there were no labor costs.

Edge SEL 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 82,252 miles

On Tuesday, August 25th, 2015 my power brake booster in my 2007 Ford Edge (82,257 mi.) failed without warning. When I stepped on the brakes there was "complete" brake failure when the brake pedal was pushed to the floor.). Had I been traveling at any speed (such as 30 mph) serious injury and/or death could have occurred.

On various forums on the internet the problem with Ford's Edge power brake booster has been described in numerous places. It is my understanding Ford has acknowledge it in 2010-2013 models under 100,000 miles, but makes no provision for earlier models and refused to cover the $475.33 cost of replacement I incurred, when I contacted Ford Motor Company.

It is time for Ford Motor Company to step up, declare a recall and reimburse those of us, who have had to replace the item at our own expense. If not I can smell a "Class Action" lawsuit coming. This could make the "Pinto" settlement look small. (It's time to contact the Birmingham, AL law firm that handled that case.)
