Crown Victoria P71 Police Interceptor V8

  • Automatic transmission

Bought this car at an auction. 188k miles. Car would shift to neutral around corners randomly. Eventually the problem caused overdrive failure. Causing the car to downshift and upshift rapidly and continuously until you turned over drive off. Then it completely went out, This all occurred in matter of months and few thousand miles. Estimated 2500 for repairs. Decided to throw it to the junkyard. Transmissions on this year are junk, and not worth putting money into something that'll just fail in a short time.

Tens of thousands of hits on the Ford 2005 Crown Victoria Transmission Problem - Around 90,000 to 115,000 miles. Drive and when the car switches to 2nd gear, it goes into neutral. Stop the car to go back into 1st gear. To drive in 1st gear (limp mode) turn off the OD (over drive) the button on the end of the gear shift. Read one story where a residential delivery business has several of these cars since they don't need to drive over 20 mph. Note: the fluid is very clean and at the proper level. After researching this and paying for a Ford Repairman evaluation: This is typically the failure of a non-expensive hydraulic pump inside the transmission. It is foolish to search for a 2005 transmission since they are all bad in the junk yard too. However one police mechanic described that he has replaced dozens of these transmissions (swapped out for a used one) and that the 2002 through 2010 swap and work fine regardless of the F or H on the transmission. Found junk transmissions in the junk yard for around $350. Mechanic wanted around $500 to swap. So buy one of these low mileage cars for $600 and have a great car for $1,500 worth around $2,900.

Crown Victoria Lx Sport 4.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,060 miles

MY FORD CROWN VICTORIA LX SPORT 2005 THE transmission started to slip while on interstate. got home went on line to check for recalls . no recalls. but found N.H.S.A. BULLETIN TO FORD WARNING OF PROBLEM IN TRANSMISSION says front pump cylinder housing can crack at the snap ring. causing loss of all forward gears" called ford factory rep. she said there were no recalls at this time. and that i had to pay for repairs out of my own pocket. and if there was a recall they would refund for the repair. i said dont you think that a car that cost over $42000.that the transmission should last longer then 60065 miles.she said it was not normal . she said ford issued a service bulletin to dealers on repairs.they know there is a problem with the transmission but refuse repair till there is a recall. i said its a big safety issue when you pull out in the road. she said be careful. FORD WAS NO HELP AT ALL!!!!!! FORD IS NOT CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY !!! ONLY PROFITS !! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR DON"T BUY FORD PRODUCTS BECAUSE THEY WON"T STAND BEHIND THEM !!!!!! I WON"T EVER BUY FORD AGAIN.. AND WILL TELL EVERY ONE I KNOW NOT TO EITHER !!!!!!!! THEY SELL JUNK.......THANKS HOPE THIS HELPS
