I have spent $200 so far to no avail. I have replaced the fuel filter, used a fuel injector cleaner, a had a mechanic diagnosis the problem. The mechanic said he read something about alternators that were not OEM (original equipment manufacturer) cause the loss of power. It sounds ridiculous to me! I'm going to take it to Ford for $97.50 to get diagnosed again and return to get my money back from the mechanic.
Update from May 5, 2009: I put an alternator in the car. at around the same time the car began to stall, die, choke, etc. It felt like it wasn't getting fuel/ the first tech checked the fuel system, vacumme hoses, electrical connections etc. then told me that his best guess was the alternator was doing it. I felt he was guessing as he charged me $200.00 more. Took it to ford they thought spark plugs (which i just changed. I told them to try it. didn't fix it. I told them about the alt. so the tech unplugged it and BAM. It fixed it. the alt. which i bought from autozone interfered with my computer. it charged the battery fine and that's it's job so why would you think it was the alt. except that i changed it but i thought it was happening before it was changed but app. i was mistaken. after $600.00 paid to ford it cost me $1000.00 to change the alt. myself.
