This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Consumer stated was backing out of driveway and heard a "clicking" noise coming from under the hood. Consumer pulled back into driveway. Vehicle was towed to mechanic the next day who diagnosed that the timing belt tensioner had broken.
Consumer was traveling about 65mph on expressway and warning light came on, vehicle was smoking. She pulled over to the shoulder, and put some water into vehicle to get home. She only could drive 10mph on the road and vehicle started losing oil. She took it to garage, and mechanic told her that cylinder block was cracked. Consumer contacted Ford.
Took my car in for rattling when driving and steering. They ordered tack shield and bolts. Took it back in, they installed parts and said it didn't fix the problem. Had to order rack and pinion. Kept the car until that came in and installed it. A few days later it started squealing and smoking. Took it back in and they said it was leaking power steering fluid but they didn't know why. They kept it for a week, decided it was a defective part and installed another rack and pinion. Got it back and it was still rattling and now it has a low growl sound at an idle. Took it back. They had to replace the idler pulley and the right swade bar link. The growl is still there but they're saying that is now normal. It is not normal. It was not there until they started screwing around in there. This car is a piece of junk!
Car will crank over, but will not start. It has occurred 5 times. Four times it required to be towed to the service dept at Ford for repairs. Only once did the vehicle shut down while driving approx 40 miles an hour. The fuel pump has been replaced twice since I have owned the car, however when the car gets towed into the dealers, they are not able to really determine what is the defect with the car.
